Do you think I could walk this far?

I’m 6’0" 340lbs.

I want to walk somewhere twice a week that is a round trip of 3hr 18min.

Do you think I could do it?

Only you know it, if you can do it or not. Do short distances first.

I have trouble keep the weight on.

IDK. I know you can be overweight and still be healthy.

Hard to say without knowing how much you walk now. Can you be walking that far in a month if you start with 10 minutes today and build on that? It’s incredibly likely, yes.

Good on ya for thinking healthier.

so total 3 hours? or like 6 hours 40 minutes. i believe you can do it. but i think your feet would be in great pain by the of it just being honest. Theres been a few times where i had to walk 6+ hours… some days ive walked 10+ hours. i believe its possible like if you needed to, but just for general working out, id try shorter distances first just to be safe. Would you be able to have someone pick you up or be able to call an uber if you needed to part of the way? youll also need to factor in breaks (appoximately one 5-10 minute break every 30 minutes to an hour. Plus youll have to eat part of the way likely to keep your energy up. if its 3 hours 18 minutes by google maps calculations, youll also need to factor in that they generally calculate it at quite a quick rate of walking since most of the walking they calculate is a few minutes between bus stops and such. if your walking long distances youll naturally walk slower. Its possible a 3 hour 18 minute walk could become a 5+ hour ordeal realistically speaking. Unless you really need to id definatey start with maybe half that distance. If you have a heart condition or anything id really not push myself that far too.

best of luck dude.

If you take it slowly not only will you complete the walk but it will be good for you. I’d take a mobile with a taxi number on it incase you can’t finish it.

I would build up to it and get some weight off as you do it, maybe start out with 30 min, then 45 min etc

You must have really good motivation to do it so good for you!

Okay, for context, I walked and shoveled a lot this winter. This past six weeks I have not walked at all because my life has revolved around yard chores and getting my trailer ready. I went for a 1.5 hour walk last night and OOF.

Sore feet and I tired myself out a bit. Going to walk the same distance again tonight in better shoes. Goal is a 3 hour walk by next week. I’ll report on how I’m doing at upping my conditioning again @Nomad.

Anything is possible???

That is probably considered by most reasonable people too long to walk at one time. Can you do it? Probably. Will you feel like doing it again? Probably not.

I went from mostly sitting on my couch for 10 years to doing a job on my feet for 5 hrs at a time. At first, I was in a lot of pain.

But over time, I adjusted. I bought good shoes and am sore by the end of my shift but it’s more doable.

Some days I stand in one spot a lot and other days I walk a lot on the job. But it’s possible to adjust and it feels like it’s an accomplishment which feels good

Please do, @anon82948922 I’d be interested to hear your progress

Will you feel like doing it again? Probably not.

I had no problem with this by the end of last summer, could walk for about ten hours in a day. I could also do a 55km paddle by the end of the year. I started out modestly in the spring, needing lots of breaks. It’s the stupid winter break that wrecks my health every year.

Do you have any indoor exercise equipment?

Just to clarify, the destination is 1hr 38 minutes away, 3hr 16min round trip. I was thinking of the doing the round trip twice a week.

I don’t know enough about your knees and joints or your current walking regiment.

Do you currently walk at all? If not I would start off small. The good thing about walking is that it is generally low impact. I have knee issues so even lower impact walking hurt a ton.

When I was 360 pounds I couldn’t walk a mile without my knees screaming at me, but I kept on going and after losing a lot of weight I eventually climbed a mountain with intense elevation gain.

This is kind of a go at your own pace question. Maybe try half the distance first.

Also, time for the obligatory talk to your doctor first.

Myself, yes, but it’s difficult to use it. We live in a home that is comfortable with two, but crowded with three. My daughter moved back home after univerity because of the housing crisis in Canada. She has taken over my man cave where I would use my walking pad or my Quest 3. My wife doesn’t like me exercising upstairs. A bit frustrating to not be allowed space in your own home.
