Or do you buy as you go along? Or do you buy on credit and then just pay down the credit cards?
I buy as I go along. I’m not sure if you are talking about food or what but as far as food goes, I get food assistance and rarely use it all. As for buying other things, I don’t spend much on non necessities and generally have a surplus at the end of the month. I am fairly frugal.
do you get covid food stamps? When I was living with my ex I applied for food stamps for me and my son (my ex gets his own because he’s a diabetic) and we qualified for $16 per month, but they have been giving me an extra $200 for covid. Even now that I’ve moved, because it was in a cycle they are still sending it to me. So I feed my son almost every night. I think the cycle is almost up and I don’t know if I will qualify on my own and I don’t know if covid food stamps will continue. But man it’s nice to have.
Yeah, I believe that the extra I am getting is related to Covid. I too, was sent a later stating a very small amount…something like $14 I think but they have been giving much more than that. I am not sure of the exact amount. Mine has actually built up because I don’t spend it all and I have surplus stock of food assistance credit that will last awhile even if they stop sending extra.
yep first two weeks i spend nonstop then im broke the rest of the month
yes, I have a bunch saved up too.
I tend to do most of my spending the first two weeks after payday. After that, my spending slows way down.
Back when we had my income + Hubby’s income, we could buy 99% of our groceries at Costco and be good for like 3 weeks. And we’d still have some money leftover for restaurants and random inexpensive things that we wanted.
But since I stopped working, we were broke after buying groceries. We had my final paycheck to ride on, for a little while… that has since been used up. Now, we are in the negative. We couldn’t pay all of our bills, this month.
But Hubby just got a significant raise! So, I’m hoping that we’ll do better in the coming months.
For now, we are probably going to have to go to a food pantry.
I’m sorry you’re having a hard time this month. Hopefully the raise helps and you get caught up quickly. There’s nothing wrong with going to the food pantry to help get by, hopefully you’ll get good stuff.
Thanks, @Leaf! Yeah, I haven’t been to a food pantry, yet. I hope we can get some stuff to help us get by.
I think there is a church near us that does a food pantry on Thursdays! So, maybe we can go to that, tomorrow.
If that’s not enough maybe the county has a food pantry too??
i get disability and it covers my rent, food and cigg.
This. We also have several months worth of non-perishables and at least a month worth of food in the freezer. Enough bottled water for 1-2 weeks.
I tend to stock up when certain groceries on sale, stuff I eat all the time like my cereal and meat pies. Otherwise I spend my money over the course of the month.
I like to stock up the pantry when I find a deal. My pantry is really full. I need to start using stuff so it doesn’t outdate.
I buy as the month goes along. I don’t have a car and have to walk home with groceries. I think this prevents me from over-eating. If I bought everything at the beginning of the month, I’d just eat all the good stuff, til there’s nothing left.
We are pretty hopeless with money at my place. We currently allocate $2000 for food and bills each month (excluding rent) and we always seem to run out of money in the last week. Not sure what we spend it all on, but we do buy coffee out most days which adds up.
I get money weekly. I usually spend it all before it’s time for the next payment.
Ouch. That’s a major expense you should look at ditching.
I don’t like to buy much at a time, because I’ve had my apartment broken into and had to throw things out.
