Do you own lease rent borrow or don’t need a car?

1.5 more years til I pay off my car loan.
Very excited to see the end is near.
I will own my car and hopefully be able to save.

I don’t need a car. I rarely leave the house!

@everhopeful when you do, do you live in a town / neighborhood with walking distance to stores?

We own our van.

We have shared car where I live. It’s not mine but I share maintenance and fuel expenses in exchange for use. Been that way for about 7 years.

We wish we had a van so we could thrift furniture.

Both of ours are paid off now, although my wife’s van is getting miled out with the incessant trips for her ho bag of a mother. We’ll need to replace that in another year at this rate. My own car was used so little this winter that I had to put a trickle charger on it to keep the battery from going dead.

Good arrangement. Makes a lot of sense.

Curious as to how you handle the insurance requirements. Are you scheduled as drivers with the insurance company?

Are EVs practical in canada?

Not really. I get a taxi when I have to go out. It works out cheaper than owning a car. I actually can’t drive because of schizophrenia so I’ve no choice anyway.

It’s pretty cool that you’re able to drive and have your own car

Yup, all three of us are insured on one policy.

Yes and no. Good for short trips, but you need to own at least once ICE vehicle for longer drives. We don’t have anything resembling the charging network needed to support our government’s ambitions. The extreme cold for several months of the year also severely limits their range. If you do buy one, get one from a good manufacturer that knows what our winters are like. Teslas only seem to be built to handle California.

The use of PEVs (Personal Electric Vehicles) such as e-bikes, e-scooters, electric skateboards, monowheels, etc., is booming. In fact, Calgary, Alberta, is the only city in Canada where the shared micromobility devices are used almost all winter (bikes/scooters). They just make good sense and they help get more heavily polluting vehicles off the roads.

It really is helpful.

I think PEV look like a great idea for people able to keep balance. I think I would topple over and fall.

My balance is not great, but I manage well enough. They’re okay once you get rolling.

I own my car and it’s paid off. But we need a new car because my car is small and my husband doesn’t fit in it (he’s 6’6” or 198.2 cm) plus he has tons of metal in his fused spine so he can’t bend to fit better so my car is really painful for him to get into.

Right now, we also have another car but it’s very old and won’t last much longer. My husband sort of fits in that one. Basically, we need to sell both cars and get one car that we can afford and that he can fit in.

Maybe an SUV. Any way you can finance it in the future through a loan?
