Do you own a gun?

Oh haha. I’ve thought about that seriously and asked my Dad if he wanted to go last year. I would definitely go to Canada if the situation was right.

Luckily my cousin was not there but he’s okay though because he passes for a white guy with his mutton chops and Amish looking beard. His first and last names don’t lead anyone to believe he is latino like me where 2 thirds of my name are en espenol.

Thanks cuz :v:t4:

Seriously. We have good gun laws and I’d be worried about half of you lot!

No offence. Guns aren’t toys and you don’t need them. Yes I’ve shot guns. Yes I have friends with guns even over here in Australia. Do I think most of you folk need guns…then no!

Hunting shouldn’t be a sport in our society although it’s probably better than the caged farm system but still!

Gawd. Lock up your guns!

I don’t own a gun, there’s no point. If a plotter wants to get the jump on me, they will be able to and a gun won’t help much.

Obviously I don’t care if mentally ill are restricted from owning guns, but ideally only police/military/hunters/animal control/temporary permits would have them. I’m afraid the gun-toting lunatic normies will scapegoat the mentally ill if the authorities ever take away their guns.

I own a handgun and several shotguns I purchased before I came down with sz. Not sure how the background check would have changed things if I had been diagnosed with sz sooner.

I don’t technically own the guns anymore – they are locked up in a gun safe in my parent’s basement. It’s for the best.

I don’t think owning guns should be a right.
I think it should be a priviledge that had to be earned, and only to be obtained through taking mandatory gun safety classes and having to store them in special, locked cabinets.

I can understand hunting equipment like rifles, but I will never understand why someone things it’s their god-given right to own, say, an ak-47 or a semi-automatic. Those things aren’t made for hunting. And they’re not for ´"absolutely no other way to keep myself alive" protection. They’re for shooting people, and lots of them, and they should be banned.

Also, the entire mentality around guns need to change in the US.
First of all, just because a 200 year old piece of paper says it’s a right to bear arms, doesn’t mean it should be okay with today’s society.
And second, people (and cops!) should have mandatory training on how to shoot to maim, not kill. If someone is coming at you with a knife and you don’t know taekwondo, you still have a choice of shooting them in the foot and running away, or going for the chest or head which will kill them.
If you’re a police officer and a suspect is armed and dangerous, you have a choice to shoot him in the arm instead of the head.

People need to be trained to make that choice, to not “shoot to kill” or “Shoot first, ask later”.

Read this thing

“armed citizens made america free, and armed citizens will keep america free”

And then I thought, hmm you know who else had guns? The British… You know who else abused the guns? The British…

Having guns doesn’t make anyone free

I just want a ban on automatic weapons like the AR - 15…the AR -15 has been the weapon of choice during the shootings of last years…Bill Clinton banned the automatic weapons and the mass shootings stopped…we need that back.

I don’t think I know enough about guns. There’s something like 100 million gun owners in the USA. I wouldn’t want to upset them. The more you know the better.

I own two guns. However since being diagnosed I have had those guns removed from my house. I bought the guns when I lived on a farm and I mostly used them to shoot snakes. However before I was medicated and still had my guns I have on occasion used them to try and kill the voices by unloading them wildly at apparently nothing.

I don’t think it would really be that big of a deal if I were banned from buying guns but that’s because I don’t really use them anymore. That being said I don’t think people with mental Illness should be banned from buying guns. However I do think there should be extra rules in place for people with serious mental illness when it comes to gun ownership. Maybe something like a chaperone when it comes to using them. I mean would it really be so bad to keep your guns in some sort of armory and be required to check them out with a written plan of how they will be used and only allowed to be used under supervision.

For some people guns are an essential part of survival. Like people that live in places like alaska where hunting can be there only source of food. I know that in alaska they even let convicted felons own guns because its so essential to daily life.

I do think that they are using mental illness as a scapegoat for only a few very disturbed individuals. The fact of the matter is that all this outrage is because a criminal used a gun to shoot people. There are plenty of criminals out there that don’t have any mental illness and they use those guns to commit crimes. Most people with mental illness aren’t criminals and just because you have a mental illness doesn’t mean your a criminal so why should we be treated as though we are convicted felons.

I would never use a gun to commit suicide because its so messy, extreme, and the fact that my death would be ruled a suicide and the insurance company wouldn’t pay out to my family. If I were to commit suicide I would do it in such a way that it was ruled natural causes. That way I wouldn’t put my family through the grief of knowing I commited suicide and they would get the life insurance settlement.

I used to own a gun a few months ago but I sold it since I’m moving to Germany soon. I don’t have any issues with guns or suicide. But I’m planning on buying a STG 44 (ww2 german, worlds first assault rifle) but in .22 caliber rounds for fun shooting/plinkering when I’m in Germany. Which means I gotta join a shooting club and get certified to own a firearm before I can buy one. Germany has some very tough laws with guns. But that’s just me. I like shooting guns for fun!

they are fun! I bought mine to do with same – just plinker out in the woods. I’ve since lost interest in shooting, but I remember it being a good time

America allows its citizens to bear arms in defense that the British would return to retake the 13 colonies?

No idea. In school they said it was to keep the freedom, in essence. If you ask me it just creates a society of fear.

@anon1571434 The NRA’s statement about guns was somewhere along the lines of, “to protect more people from guns is to arm yourself with a gun”. So, if you fear of having a gun pulled on you… get yourself a gun as well.

@anon1571434 Have you been to one of those gun shows? There is a whole gun industry that supports the NRA.
