Do you like the police?

I had some positive experiences with the police and firemen (nowadays firewomen too) when I was a kid and aren’t afraid of them or hate them. A cop stopped his patrol car at a bus stop I was waiting at and asked if anyone has seen a man throwing rocks and swinging a bat or stick at people. I said no but I have only been here ten minutes, and I would call 911 if I saw him. After the officer left one of the young men started up that he hates the police and doesn’t see how anyone could help them. I was afraid I was going to have a problem, but he just went off for awhile and finally stopped. This young man scares me more than the police do.

Last night I called the police at 1:30am because someone rang the buzzer for my apartment at the front door of my building. I didn’t answer or let anyone in. The police said they would send a patrol car to check the area.

I don’t know if someone needed help or what. No one I know called and said they were coming by.

Short Answer. NO.

In all the years i have dealt with them, being nicked and being a victim - i always get the bent ones.

Respect is earnt in my opinion, not because your some spotty face 20 year old child with a uniform on with bum fluff on your chin.

Well an interesting story is when I worked at a convenience store a guy would come in to buy beer before 7am. I would tell him nicely I can’t sell it until the register says it’s 7am. It’s not legal until then. Then when I was summoned for jury duty on an armed robbery trial, he was in a police uniform and one of the witnesses. I had to bail out and say I knew the cop and would be inclined to believe anything he said. I was excused from serving as a juror in that trial. The convenience store is in a small town and everyone knows everyone else.

Ive had generally okay experience with them, the few times ive been arrested theyve never been overly negative. And when in the cell, by then theyve known i have sz and theyve treated me pretty kindly

I thought I might be arrested when I was a teenager. I took my mom’s car without her permission and the police pulled me over at 3am. They finally called my mom who lied and said I should have her car. The cop let me go, but I caught hell I when I got home.

I have had both negative and positive experiences when dealing with police.

a negative example: I had a policeman follow me for blocks and harass me over parking on road for like 10 or 15 seconds to deliver a newspaper, back when I was delivering them. He gave me a ticket too. It was very early in the morning with no traffic. All I was trying to do was deliver a newspaper… I have a few more examples of negative experiences like this.

A positive experience: When I was in psychosis and making a trek across country on foot, some of them gave me money and/or rides and helped me on my journey.

In my case, the positive has outweighed the negative. I realize that this is not the case with everyone.

I had a negative experience while having symptoms. I respect them though.

The police here is very corrupt and have outright murdered innocent people and have gotten away with it, so they can go to hell.

Not really. I think a lot of them get into policing for the wrong reasons or become corrupt while working as a cop. I don’t think every cop is this way but a lot of them fall victim to corrupt culture. Even if they were good people to start with.

I definitely don’t trust them. Even the so called “good” ones. I try to avoid them whenever possible.

Never really have had interactions with the police. But that doesn’t help my paranoia about them. I always think they will arrest me for something. And my heart stops if one is driving behind me.

But my dad has had to call the cops on my aunt’s bf cause he stalks the family house. She’s not innocent mind you. But once when I was over a special sheriff’s team came to the door about him having multiple warrants. So far he’s still in custody. But I’m still on the lookout for someone following me home due to it.

I had some positive experiences with cops when I was a kid after the man touched me when I was seven. A cop came in the men’s locker room, talked to me and was really nice. I really didn’t want that man touching me, and he wasn’t my grandfather. I don’t know what the deal was. I didn’t call the police. One of the other men did.

I’m glad they helped you out then. Some people are monsters.

Well I may not have been here talking to you tonight if whatever man it was hadn’t called the police. I probably would have been killed if that man had taken me.

Yeah that’s very true. There are good people out there too.

@Wave @Om_Sadasiva. I was a little afraid of them too when I was a kid because of my mom telling me about jail and arresting my dad. But he was nice, I talked to him, and they arrested the man who was touching me. He wasn’t my grandfather.
