Do you like Abilify? What's your experience with it?

I’m having side effects from the Risperidone I take. Namely weight gain and leg pain. What do you think of Abilify?

I’m on Abilify since 2015. For me Abilify is a very good medication.

On a ‘lower’ dose, abilify is not the worst thing in the world.

at 15 mg I have to say that my experience was pretty bad. tbf I was at a very bad mindstate at the time so IDK how much was due to my own mind and how much was due to the abilify. Probably a good chunk of it was also due to the abilify.

but having said that

I have never been on any other ap so I have nothing to compare it to

Abilify’s been a good med for me.

I’m on 15 mg and it takes care of like 80% of symptoms.

In the past, I’ve tried Zyprexa, Risperidone, and Geodon.

Those all had some seriously unwanted side effects like weight gain and super high prolactin.

With Abilify, the worst side effect I’ve gotten is restless legs, which come and go.

All in all, it’s the best med I’ve found so far.

Abilify has been a good drug for me. I did pretty well on the 15 mg tablets, kept me stable with no weight gain or any other side effects.

The only reason the tablets were stopped was that I could no longer get the tablets for free, and they are way too expensive to pay cash for. Like $1200-1300 for 30 tablets. It since has gone generic, but even the generic is very expensive.

Now I get Abilify Maintena depot shots, free through a patient assistance program. I get the max dose (400 mg) every three weeks, in addition to taking oral Haldol.

Abilfy made me gain a lot of weight, though some of it may have been due to actually being able to eat three times a day, because I started on it after I moved to a group home.
I weighed 75, at the end I was on 120kg.

It worked fine for me at 15mg, but then I foolishly tapered it down on my own until things went bad, and when they tried to get me back on it, even max dose didn’t work.

I was on 90mg abilify, and nothing special.
I just had worse sleep.

I like it. I don’t have the appetite I did on olanzapine and I have more energy.

I would not go as far as call it activating for me as some people say. that does not apply to me

Abilify is both a very good and a very bad medication. It was the best med I have tried for negative symptoms but I developped dangerous side effects like multiple addictions.

Abilify possible side effects are addictions to gambling, sex, drugs, compulsive shopping and binge eating. My psy said not all Abilify users get these side effects.

You can try Abilify but watchout for the side effects I named.

It’s known that Risperidone caused male breasts and sexual impotence, there was a news scandal about the Risperidone Boys in the USA a few years ago,

I take 15mg. It messed with my blood sugar so I have to take metformin now along with it.

It was the best med for me.

I’m on abilify 300mg injection.

It’s been pretty good.

Caused horrible anxiety at first, but my doctor prescribed klonopin to combat it,

That worked well.

So far, I haven’t gained weight from it, just my own personal bad eating decisions.

Doesn’t completely control the voices or delusions,

But I can’t complain because it’s really gotten them to a manageable point.

I have the sneaking suspicion it caused me to have hair loss in the beginning, but my doctor says that’s not likely.

I do.

That aside, great medication.
