By 2nd name I don’t mean a nickname I mean a name you would consider on the same level or even above your birth given/legal name.
I don’t mind people who know me calling me by my birth name but I’d sometimes like them to call me by my 2nd name. I sometimes give my 2nd name at restaraunts when I pick up orders.
I’m not sure how unusual this is; I suspect it might be because my sense of self is a bit messed up.
The name I go by isn’t my legal name. It’s not a nickname, it’s just what I told people my name was when I moved, and now that’s how everyone refers to me. Only Mr. Star and my old roommate know my legal name, and only because she saw mail addressed to me and he had to learn it when I signed our marriage license. I am actually thinking about changing it again.
I am half in and half out on using my birth name. I still have to go by it for university and filing purposes, which I don’t much like, but all of my friends call me by my chosen name.
Ive been toying with the idea of changing my name to Seth from Roger for years. Partly cos my fathers name is Roger also - and his actions growing up were shameful, and always got the feeling i got tarred with the same brush as him. When my mother passes on - then i will probably change it by deed poll. We were triplets so us boys never had a middle name. But dads was Hocking. Which always sounded like you was swearing - like Roger Hocking (Fcking) Robinson. lol.
Everyone I know has made the switch except my dad. He still calls me by my former first name. At first people called me by both names. But it didn’t take long for people to get used to it
Fun fact about me: When I was younger I worked for six months at a Waffle House. I told everybody there that my name was Karlos (it isn’t). Everybody called me Karlos and one night my brother called and asked to speak to me, using my real name. They said nobody with that name works here and hung up.
