Do you believe diet soda is healthier than soda with sugar?

  • Yes, a lot more healthy.
  • Somewhat healthier
  • About as bad for you as normal soda
  • Somewhat worse for you
  • A lot worse than regular soda with sugar!
  • I can’t conclude anything / don’t know

What do you believe? I know people who drink a lot of diet soda and is fine. But maybe in the long term, who knows?

I think they are both terribly terrible, lol

For me it seems like a “too good to be true” thing, that diet soda would be a lot healthier. Like it tastes pretty good, imo almost as good as regular soda, but without cost?

I think it depends on what the sweetener is. Artificial sweeteners such as aspartame, sucralose, and Saccharin are worse than sugar. Natural sweeteners such as stevia and monk fruit are probably better than sugar.

I don’t think it’s THAT MUCH better but it has “diet” so it must be better than the original right ?

Sugar will kill your teeth and is obviously bad for bloodsugar, but aspartame which is the preferred sweetener substitute from the manufacturers is linked to cancer.

I think pepsi or coke changed the type of sweetener they used a little while, but it didn’t taste as good and so they reintroduced it because of dropping sales.

Hopefully a law will be passed banning aspartame, and then they will be forced to find a healthier alternative.

I cannot stand the taste of fizzy drinks. I’m not sure why,.

idk about healthier but if you are a heavy soda drinker the lack of sugar of diet soda can help, i used to drink a 2 liter a day of diet soda to replace energy drinks, if i did that with regular soda itd be an extreme amount of calories especially considering its pure sugar

I think it’s better that’s why I drink diet soda and diet energy drinks. But it’s still bad.

I voted somewhat healthier. The ill effects of drinking regular soda have been proven. From reading both sides I’m not sure if it has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that diet soda is bad for you. Some claim it makes you gain weight or get diabetes but from what I read they haven’t proved this for sure. It just came out last year that aspartame causes cancer but you have to drink a hell of a lot of it before that happens.

My doctor would rather I drink a diet soda than regular soda or sugary fruit juices. He has asked me to work in more water, too. I hate plain water.

When it comes to the health comparison between diet soda and regular soda, both have their own health implications.

Diet Soda:

  • The Good: Diet soda doesn’t leave residue on teeth like regular soda does because it gets its flavoring from artificial sweeteners, not natural sugar. This means it won’t directly contribute to new cavities.
  • The Bad: Despite being calorie-free, diet soda may actually contribute to weight gain, not weight loss. Artificial sweeteners in diet sodas can increase sugar cravings and may interfere with the natural bacteria in our guts, making us less tolerant of glucose.
  • The Ugly: One study correlated diet soda consumption with an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

Regular Soda:

  • The Good: A 12-ounce can of soda packs approximately 140 calories and around 10 teaspoons of sugar. While this may seem high, compared to the sugar content of other drinks on the market, it’s relatively moderate.
  • The Bad: Consuming large amounts of regular soda can lead to weight gain and a variety of health conditions.

In conclusion, both diet and regular sodas have their own health risks. While diet soda may seem like a healthier option due to its lack of sugar and lower calorie content, it can still have negative effects on your health. It’s important to note that moderation is key when consuming any type of soda. If you’re looking for a healthier beverage option, consider water, herbal tea, or fruit-infused water. As always, it’s best to consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.

Edit: so I guess they’re both kill you one way or another if you drink enough of it

I drink one diet soda every other day. Why? Because my life really sucks and I have few pleasures in life. I don’t have any really harmful addictions and I indulge in very little ever. So if I die of cancer because I drank one too many diet dr. Peppers then so be it.

  1. Monster Energy Drink: A 16 oz. can contains 54 grams of sugar. This is more than what’s in one 2/3 cup serving of Ben & Jerry’s Topped Salted Caramel Brownie ice cream, which has 37 grams of sugar.

  2. Gold Peak Sweet Tea: An 18.5 oz. bottle contains 48 grams of sugar. If you have a craving for sweet tea, try Gold Peak Slightly Sweet Tea which has half the sugar at 24 grams and only 90 calories.

  3. Minute Maid Lemonade: A 12 oz. can contains 40 grams of sugar. It packs even just two more grams of added sugars than Sprite.

  4. Snapple Apple: A 16 oz. bottle contains 47 grams of sugar. Of the 47 grams of total sugar, 42 of them are added.

These drinks contain more sugar than a 12-ounce can of Sprite, which contains 38 grams of sugar. It’s important to be mindful of the sugar content in beverages as they can be a significant source of added sugars in our diet.
