Do you appreciate metal (music) for its therapeutic effects?

An example of a song that helps me when I get frustrated with certain symptoms is “Down to Nothing” by Arch Enemy. If you are into metal, you might know that the vocalist for The Agonist is now the vocalist for Arch Enemy.

Thoughts?

Therapeutically it does my head in but each to his/her own

I saw Judas Priest in concert in 1977.

I listened to my ex wifes music, when I was married and this was when I was off my rocker with strong bouts of euphoric mania - I am feeling better and more tranquil a bit - there is no place for Heavy Metal music for me - I am no longer that angry person

I love metal. It, like many genres of music, can help alter the emotions. I’m not sure that I’d call it therapeutic but it does make me feel good when I listen.

As for Arch Enemy, I never really thought people with blue hair were anything but silly, however that girl is darn cute. She’s also the girlfriend of Doyle, from the Misfits.

Didn’t know that (the band connection). Cool, cool.

If anyone wants to share metal songs that have positive effects on their emotions, please do share via pm. I can do the same for you if you like. Just pm me!

Is enjoying listening to Metal mostly a male occurance?

I can only handle classic metal like Iron Maiden and Dio and Metallica. but I do love it. big energy.

I listen to metal and know a lot of other girls that do too. In December my boyfriend and I are seeing Slipknot and KoRn. I’ve followed both of them since their first albums. Metal motivates me and provides a healthy outlet for my anger. :sunny:

Black Sabbath, Ozzy - the grandfathers of all metal.

Some metal can be therapeutic, but some can go to the dark side. certain songs i won’t listen to. Anything praising Satan I don’t listen to. Some vampire type goth/metal I can deal with…

I haven’t heard much metal that praises Satan. Usually, within the general genre of metal, the song meaning has to do with struggle and success in getting over said struggle (from a humorous approach to a serious approach).

That’s interesting. Does it sound musical to you? Is it kind of like yelling your lungs out vicariously?

I can’t leave it playing but for several seconds. Maybe it’s because of my hidden anger I can’t harness, and the anger of other people.

Dave Mustaine (Megadeth, thrash metal) is a big time Christian.

That’s about my speed, daydreamer.

I’ve been listening to metal since I was a teen. The bands I listen to do sound musical. Yes they scream but not senselessly. The vocals are in rhythm with the drums, bass, and guitar. The bands express how they feel and those emotions come across in clever lyrics and a powerful beat. :sunny:
