Do u think prostitution should be legal

I’m watching cops and their busting people for prostitution. I think it is a waste of time.

I had a discussion on this board once before about this. My stance at the time was that it would be safer for the sex workers if brothels were legal and regulated.

But someone made the point that even where brothels were legal a lot of the workers have a lot of problems with drugs and toxic relationships.

Yes abuse of women in all its forms is Wrong.

It’s legal in Vegas and there has been success there I am pretty sure. It’s the black market sex dealers taken out of the market that makes it safer.

No it should not be, Even if it’s something they feel they want to do, it catches up with them later in life, the drugs, the beatings, not all encounters are just sex, they can get hurt pretty bad, many their lives are taken over by pimps and they never see the money, maybe in a perfect world, but not in this one

Falls under the same category as drugs IMO. Of course it should be legal. It’s a societal issue not a criminal one.

So it’s ok,tjat perverted digusting men are taking advantage of women with drug problems so bad they will do anything for it.
That’s a societal problem that should be legalised?mna

It seems to work in Nevada. But I think it’s only legal in a few counties and not the whole state. I may be wrong. It’s the worlds oldest profession and it will never go away and I think legal brothels would be safer than walking the streets. In Nevada the Bunny Ranch tests its workers reguarly for AIDS and STD’s. But yeah, brothels are safer for the women. Maybe the legal brothels should have built in counselors or therapists for the women if they need it.

It’s not abuse if it’s consensual and no one is being hurt. And who said anything about women? I want prostitution with men! lol

You took the words right out of my mouth. I remember reading about Amsterdam, where prostitution is legal, and they were still having problems with sex workers being abused. I guess they don’t enforce the legal protections the prostitutes have. If they did protect the sex workers from exploitation I would say, “Of course, let’s legalized prostitution”. It seems like any time you make something illegal, and force people to do it in the shadows, you create the potential for a lot of abuse.

It may be consensual, but the person consenting may not be in the right frame of mind to be consenting or is being pressured to do so, it is complicated and some of those working in the trade are just as bad and would leave you for dead and take your money if they felt they would get away with it.

@Mountainman I agree too that prostitution should not be legal. I don’t think prostitution should be legal, because I think it would drastically change my neighborhood in ways that I wouldn’t like. though I should add that I barely interact with people in my neighborhood anyways because of my sz, so who am I faking here?

I see it similarly so, even in terms of possible addiction.

At first, I thought this was a radical quote. But when I think about the way that people compete and behave in the business world, and the fact that legal prostitution would be just another business; I can definitely see that happening. Like someone could terrorize the workers at a brothel and threaten them to go out of business, or worse.

I know I’m paranoid, but maybe some people are testing the trade in Vegas; so that when the trade finally becomes safe, stable, practical, and more profitable; they then will try to convince other states to legalize the trade. but even then, the trade is on the borderline of ethics and law: too many things can go wrong or unnoticed with two complete strangers in a private room.

Yes, definitely. Decriminalized and legal.
Some women choose to be an escorts/sex workers. Putting their choices out of the law just makes them easily targeted and abused.

Forced sex working though is another problem: its a sex trafficking and human slavery that needs to be addressed separately and in another way.

Never.

Human trafficking and prostitution should never be a legal thing, it’s awful. I don’t agree with stripping either.
Went to a strip club once, and I almost cried. Those women looked sad and terrified…

Think it is in parts here in oz.

It’s not abuse if it’s consential,
That is debatable.
A lot of women prostitutes have been sexually abused as children and do not understand boundries.
So you might not call it abuse but I would.

And how to you define being hurt.
Physicallye there are no scars so it’s ok this person has to let men do whatever they wNt to her sexually for money 6 times a day.
Is that going to hurt a person pyscologicLly yes yes it is.
So I hate the oh prostitution is the oldest profession in the buisness it’s all fine.
ITS SEXUAL ABUSE!

I know this is a little off-topic, but if prostitution was legal all throughout the U.S.; it would either be soon illegalized again, or be so heavily restricted that it would not satisfy the intentions of the original supporters. as paranoid as that hypothesis might sound; that’s what I thought of, when I answered the thread question.

I think it should be legal. I’d caution anyone against the urge to think they know better than the people (there are male sex workers, too) living that life what they want or what’s best for them.

I think giving people full access to legal protections without fear of punishment may not solve every problem, but it would be a vast improvement over the current situation.

Does having it illegal curb prostitution? No. Does it bestow any benefits on sex workers or general society? No. Is anyone safer or healthier because it’s illegal? No. Is anyone’s access to basic legal rights compromised because it’s illegal? Yes.

The law can not protect people from what goes on behind closed doors, it’s a rough trade, full of drugs, criminals and people that have no respect for themselves or others. Sure a few might be protected but the hard core reality of it would still be there.
What they go through is not just just simple clean sex, it can be very scary and rough, the same goes for ones that need to feed their habits and not getting enough cash, it can turn ugly very fast
