Do schizophrenics have a higher or lower IQ then the rest of the population or is this a myth?

What do you think?. Do you have a high or low IQ and what was your score before psychosis?

I know a few people with bipolar and they do seem more clever then the average population?

My IQ was 135 in college. 7 years ago, I took a Stanford and binet IQ test, because it qualifies for mensa, and my IQ was 129. I don’t know what it is now.

Schizophrenia lowers your IQ.

I am schizophrenic and I am fairly clever. However, I have other problems, which mean I am not going
to be successful in life.

I had to get s(h)itfaced for an IQ test cause i am scared of the results. So i scored 75. I am happy with it. In school i always just made it, i think the teachers cheated, so i don’t fail. I put minimum effort in.

I dunno if an IQ test while you are drunk would show accurate results. I would think that it would lower it.

At the time were no alcohol tests.

As a person with Asperger’s/ASD & sz/sz-a I’m interested in adaptive functioning/ functional IQ.

There’s a fair amount of research re ASD &‘adaptive functioning’ ; with adaptive functioning often being quite low compared to a person’s IQ.

When I was professionally tested in college my iq was 147. I can guarantee it’s lower than that now. Probably still above average, but I struggle a lot more.

According to my father:

Incidentally, your intelligence tests as a child tended to come out around the 150 level.

IQ isnt accurate. After sz my psychiatrist sent me to a neuropsychologist for an intelligence test. I scored way above average in math, concentration and spatial tests. Underaverage in problem solving and language. I had a normal or slightly above average overall score but reality is that I struggle in life because IQ tests dont test negative symptoms, creativity and emotional/social intelligence.

I now have a physiotherapy degree with A’s in half the courses. I cant even clean toilets in Mcdonald or even volunteer. I cant even control money as I have addictions and spending issues. I stay in bed all day everyday 90% of the time, 10% eating bathroom video games, and my parents control my money.

When you like, check out “lumosity” they do iq exercises and you can train your brainfunction. They are always free exercises.

my last IQ test i scored 87. It was when i had to go get testings done for autism.

I am clever if I am given time to do a task.

As long as the person doesn’t care how something gets done, and gives me flexibility to do the task, I can do a good job.

However, I would not be in such an environment again if I was to get another data analysis job, as before I had family to rely on to help me.

Now I work a physical manual labour job, but it has skill, creativity and keeps me fit.

It might be a massive intellectual step down from what I was doing before, but this is damage control, and I do actually enjoy it much of the time as well.

I cannot stand the intelligence ‘dick measuring’ that happens in competitive office environments, and I am unable to navigate the games people play to try and get ahead.

Quite happy doing my landscaping now. I should have made the change years ago, as I would have prevented multiple relapses that have damaged my health

My piano teacher says I have “poor executive functioning”. And my pdoc told me I have mild cognitive impairment due to “many years of sz”. My last IQ score administered by a pdoc was 100. And That was 28 years ago.

I recently took a free IQ test. It gave me a range. I’m average to lower above-average IQ.

I was born with a high intelligence but was a huge underachiever growing up and didn’t show potential or promise. I think but don’t know I was in the gifted and talented program in first grade but parents didn’t even know or remember. That or special ed…

I don’t know my iq but it’s still above average despite having lost over 10 iq points (feels like 20). So even if I had an iq of 130, it’s 120 now or if it was as high as 140, it’s 120-130 now…maybe 105-110.

Basically, in first grade I was taken from classes and doing special and gifted things things I don’t know or remember. Maybe I was pre-identified or slow or adhh or autistic or had a speech impediment. I don’t know, but GATE starts at 4th grade according to current google info.

My executive functioning isn’t very good. Especially when it comes to organising and planning. I’m not too good when it comes to multistep tasks .
