I’ve pretty well resigned myself to the idea of getting my cat neutered, but there are a lot of problems involved in the logistics of the operation. We go to town once a week, and everybody buys their groceries then. The van we use gets stuffed full of groceries. If I took my cat along in a carrying cage it would take up a lot of room - room that isn’t available. I have found out that the vetinarian will neuter my cat and let me take it home on the same day, but there just won’t be room for him with all the groceries. I’m about to decide that my cat will have more personality if I don’t have him neutered. He is already plump. If he got neutered he would get fat.
Tom cats that aren’t neutered can spray REALLY smelly pee which you can’t get rid of the smell of. We always neutered our tomcats
I have a box filled with cat litter in my room. So far his spray isn’t too smelly, unless I have gone nose blind to it. My cat just has just one fang in his mouth, and I’m not sure he could hold his own in a cat fight. That’s another good reason to get him neutered, if I can figure out a way to have it done.
Do ou have money for a taxi?
@crimby do you know anyone with a car that might help you take him to the vet?
A taxi would be prohibitively where I live. That isn’t a viable option.
Can’t you ask them to take you into town twice?
Is there an animal charity that could pick your cat up then drop him off once he is done?
Maybe. I would have to pay them, but I can probably afford it.
I don’t know. I guess I could check. Maybe if I called the local animal shelter they would know.
I doubt it, but maybe. It wouldn’t hurt to ask.
Don’t ask, don’t get
️ Hope they say yes !
it’s pretty important that you do unless the cat is strictly indoors.
People are really trying to reduce the growth of stray animal populations and try to do so humanely…
You can always reduce your cats food intake to a morning/ night schedule of the desired amount. Let them get used to not having food available constantly and if you’re consistent they will remind you like an alarm that they need food.
I’d talk to a vet about it being a concern. Get a professional opinion.
I let my cats eat freely… they clear the bowl out just about every day, but there are two of them. Some foods have mechanism for weight control built in.
@crimby. I think neutering your cat is the responsible thing to do.
Are there any animal adoption groups in your area that might be willing to help transport your cat to and from the vet for you? Or maybe call the vets office and explain the situation to them and see if there’s any chance someone from the vets office might be a good Samaritan willing to help you out by dropping your cat back off at your home if you bring the cat in for the spaying in the morning. It couldn’t hurt to ask since there are lots of animal lovers out there that might be willing to lend a helping hand.
