Disability: POLL

Me too. It’s bad. In my case I got to where I like being alone. I don’t think I have any regrets about that.

All I can say is, “Good luck”. Social Security is known to be ruthless with people who have a history of working. Especially full time. @TomCat

I’m currently on disability since June. I got a lawyer for my first application. Only had to wait just over a year for it to be approved. I was in and out of the hospital that entire year and kept having to get new jobs so I never worked full time. I plan on working part time in the future. Right now though I’m busy with some appointment or group Monday through Friday.

I guess I am on something different then, its called sick leave which means I left work due to illness. My mother helped me with filling the forms for it, she told me I can only have it for a limited time. She’s an accountant. Now she told me I have 2 options, try to get unemployment (chômage) or go on disability. Unemployment pays more but its only for like 6 months and I need to prove them that I am looking for work. I think I have to give them my CV.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m sure you’ll come out of this in fine form. You’re that type of guy.

Well i think you need to do what you feel is best! I have thought about disability been told i do not qualify for disability am off all medications and have ups and downs but i keep trying . And well i feel like it might work out for me i have a job interview minimum wage fast food joint. “People who have momentum score everytime. The key to gaining momentum is perserverance. Fight fight fight until you cannot lose.” Thats from my book im writing. Everyones different. Im a masochist i sabotage myself and keep doing the same thing over and over. Thats insanity. If you would feel better not working then its possibly in your best interest to take it easy and go on disability. Everyone on here is technicqlly disabled after all. Theres alot of uncertainty to basically everything you make a decision and it will affect you in some way! I want to work because i want an amount of income that is higher than disability. Its not about pride or politics i feel i could go go go and work and even if thats not accurate what is a fact is that since im off medication i do feel a little less sleepy. Im going all in on working wherever because i feel it is right for me. Do what you feel is best!

I’m on high rate PIP and universal credit. I don’t think I will ever work again. Or if I do it will be far into the future. I do have a good work record but I know I can’t handle it at the moment.

Okay, that sounds like quite a different situation. I broke my neck, and was deemed catastrophic, which is a whole different class of injury. That’s what I’m guessing it is anyway. Maybe we simply carry different insurance plans through work

do you think social security will contest your application? if i were in your situation i’d be worried they’d argue that i stopped working not for a medical reason but for another reason. i’m very paranoid when it comes to benefits though, so maybe you’ll be just fine. i do know the extended period of eligibility isn’t a new application when you get back on, they are suppose to just look if your income dipped or not.

I don’t really know. I am still applying for jobs and I have a back up plan. I think getting fired is pretty straight forward.

Ssdi will take a a lot of stress off your shoulders it’s worth it, you can still work part time while on it but there are income limits with that, there is no limit though in how much you can make through investment income and interest income which is pretty sweet.

Also another benefit is the health care that you get with it.

Go for it but also when applying provide as much evidence as possible and be very persuasive that way you get approved quickly.

Social security sent me a whole stack of papers to fill out. It was a lot of stuff.

what kind of stuff do they ask you in those papers?

Mostly just forms but asked about my doctor, where I get treatment. What medication I take. What were my jobs. Who was my supervisor. Did I have any accommodations and how much money I made.

It was a good stack of paper work.
