I went to the station and saw an old friend. He was walking around with a djembé shirtless on a cloudy day (and I know from his girlfriend that he’s psychotic).
He wanted to socialize. I bought him a coffee and his friend that insisted a croissant.
Then I left stating that the situation was stressing me too much. Especially since the staff of the coffee house were already glaring.
It was nice of you to treat your friend. Sometimes we have to decide what is best for our own mental health and not try to be too heroic in a situation.
Seems realistic that your friend needs treatment of some kind though perhaps he really isn’t a danger to himself or others, at least not yet.
I think what you did was what most people would do in that situation. Mental illness symptoms in others are scary even to those of us who have suffered through them.
It is kind of awkward too with some of my friends who are mentally ill because sometimes I find that the only thing I really have in common with them is that we both have a mental illness.
