Many psychiatrists in my area are either unavailable because they have a big caseload or they don’t accept my insurance so I’m glad I finally found a psychiatrist who seems available and accepts my insurance. Now I just have to wait for him to contact me in a few days and hope he accepts me as his new patient. Was it hard for anyone else to find a pdoc?
My sister found me the first one I talked to.
When I had my first session (Evaluation) with my current pdoc - it was a rocky start -I was just in the process of switching antipsychotics and I was not myself to say the least - when she asked me how old I was, I could not remember my age!
It could have been the rapid med change. It took me a while to find her, but I called up and left a message - she answered back in a couple of days - and one month later I had an appointment - same with my last pdoc.
I never went pdoc shopping, I usually stay with the first pdoc I meet with
in australia i was assigned one…seen 3 so far, one was rubbish…the other two were great.
take care
My parents found me most of mine and then I’ve been referred to a few others. I have one pdoc who I’ve been with for a long time now. I trust him.
Before my hospitalizations, when I was on my own, I had a hard time finding someone to take me. Everyone had 6 month wait lists if at all. Then after, I had a referral from the hospital and got in right away. Now I’ve been seeing a pdoc for about 1.5 years and like him.
It took me a while before I found one I could trust, I trust my current one, we talk as adults, she doesn’t try to manipulate me, doesn’t treat me badly, she’s always been upfront and honest, both her and my nurse know how to work their way around me. I feel in good hands, and she stuck her head out for me going against nice guidelines and prescribing chlorpromazine.
