i think they’re incompetent. i’ve been hospitalized, nobody tells me the diagnosis , nobody talks to me. Dr says “what are your thoughts?” is all, looks at me, probably to see if they’ve frozen body parts with haldol is all. I had to find out I had a Sz diagnsis after I got home and opened up my EHR, that’s when I first saw it. stupid ■■■■■.
they treat you in the hospital like you’re a zombie, no respect, that’s not healthcare. it’s ■■■■■■■■. My heart goes out to everyone here, we need to fight back somehow here in the united states. This is a disaster.
The psychiatrist I had in college was mind ■■■■■■■ me because I was a naïve single girl. He kept me coming back with his flattery and sweet lies. Years later he announced that I didn’t need a pdoc. And he didn’t know it at the time???
not really all mine has ever done is give me meds if thats what they do why not let the GPs do it and they can get on with pretending they know all the answers (which they dont) but they cant admit that or theyd be out of a job.
I agree…the reason I have beef with them is down to the word RESPECT. I have no time for my psychiatrist. He is arrogant. He thinks he knows more about my illness because he has read in depth about it. I do not get respect from him.
He is also very judgemental of me for what he has heard about some of the crazy things Ive done when psychotic and wired to planet pluto. I do not appreciate this. I do not appreciate that he has power over me.
I think it depends on the psychiatrist. I have had my fair share of non caring, unprofessional pdocs - the one I have now is truly a master of her trade. Her background is neuroscience, the woman is a genius.I am really happy with her thus far. I am not going to say all psychiatrist deserve no respect, some deserve some respect for actually caring and doing a good job at trying to help - others are not competent enough, thats all
I have had two psychiatrists who have helped me through some difficult times in my life and who have me as stable as I have ever been. I respect these two doctors and I trust them. The first psychiatrist who I was with for over 20 plus yrs retired and while I was nervous about having to find another I am pleased with my new psychiatrist.
and they do have ridiculous power, because if your non-compliant a bunch of ignorant stigmatized imbeciles will lie about what you did, so that the cops will haul you away in handcuffs and shackles so they can remedicate you, why, because I didn’t pay for my breakfast at Denny’s $7.95 and was talking about a shoe phone. this is ■■■■■■■■, if i’m in a hospital, I deserve a real hospital room, not a 10x10 cement bunker with a prison toilet.
yes! thank you! they’re jerks, used to give us lobotomy’s too, if they wanted, locked us up forever.
I’m realizing that I’m so angry because I was in the hospital, nobody talked to me about anything. If they had, I could have opened up and explained why it could be ptsd and what has happened to me. instead I was labelled with Sz forced to swallow pills, and booted out the door. doesn’t seem like they give a ■■■■ in the hospital at all, I was involuntarily committed, they just drag you through there, force meds on you, boot you out. Label you with something forever.
I dont, they are only good for giving med, thats all they do, in their thoughts they are thinking ’ if you had not done this, that, you would not be in that situation’ they just get paid for prescribing med, and they dont have a clue what this illness is.
I have all the respect in the world for my pdoc. He doesn’t even force me to take meds, hes like my therapist. What a good dude. He’s old so he’s got a ton of experience.
I went through a lot to understand my sons mental illness. We had to see psychiatrist on tv after his breakdown. I would ask why he could not answer questions. He never answered me. I moved him to another state and the psychiatrist got him on the right meds. I see an improvement. She cares. Thank god for her. I am trying to find a job in the same town she is in. Good psychiatrist are hard to find
the first one i saw was rubbish, he was scared of me and wanted to lock me up.
the second and third shrink i have seen recently seemed okay, and supportive of me not doing meds…so like any profession there are the good ,bad and the ugly.
take care
Mine is pretty awesome. He fixed me right up and helped me through crises. I called his office a few times and he called back eager to help pretty quickly, and he did help me, he knew what I needed and filled me prescriptions. He values my input and treats me with lots of respect, he doesnt just act like im a sheep, he wants to know what I think…probably because he knows that I am making A’s on a full scholarship to college studying psychology and that I am very muscular. I just don’t really smell like schizophrenia, even when I was psychotic he remarked on how highly i functioned and how I looked well and asked warned me not to “fool” with antipsychotics.
I told him that I was just drinking too much and needed real medicine and he was like “OK then” and then we talked about the side effects of different meds, I had just taken a class on drug and alcohol behavior and I named the least sedating atypicals and he was like “Geodon in the least sedating. Ill start you off on 20mg 2x a day” I first said “Thorazine” and he was like “hell no” LOL
Thorazine is very effective yet very old and has terrible side effects for many people. Not everybody, but it’s safe to say that it’s outdated and a blunt tranquilizer. It was developed at first as an anesthetic. Talk about sedation…
As a rule, no. There was one I respected the most. He couldn’t get me to talk, so he talked about his own life. I still remember some of the things he said. The other one who prescribed medicines taught me that I knew more what they were doing to me than he did. I still use that today + teach new psychiatrists that I know what I’m doing.
I like and respect my psychiatrist. He has empathy and much professional knowledge, and he also keeps current with new developments in medicine. I am watching him learn to use a computer to comply with the new laws and I can see that he is a quick learner. He also has a good sense of humor.
