Did you know there is a simple test to find out how you respond to AP's?

It all started with me trying to quit cigarette smoking. I was on day four and I started experience flare ups in my symptoms and was on the verge of having a psychotic break. Its been like 5 years since my last one and I have so much going for me right now I cant afford one. My friends and family said then noticed I was acting weird and were wondering if I was on drugs. So I was like ■■■■, cant let my secret out and I upped my dose from 3 to 4x/day. Gave it about 4 more days, but to minimum relief I started back up smoking again. I get my drugs from canada and dont have a skrink, so I figured I would get one, because you cant be your own doctor anymore when your mind begins to unravel, its just not wise. So I called the provider directory and about 25 shrinks later I finally found one, but he cant get me in til 2 weekends from now. I told him what Ive been doing and asked him if I should consider starting another ap but stated I was hesitant cuz I dont respond well to them and it took about a year to get stable on this one. He said why dont I just take a test…I was like what , yeah there apparently is a oral swab you can do that will analyze how you will respond to specific AP’s. I was blown away. Is anyone else aware of this? It sounds exciting. Im going to do this, then try and quit smoking again after I get more information when I see him on the 11th. Stoked

I skimmed through your post. Yes, I took the genetic test and its basically useless. My doctor swears by it. Its only worth it if you pay nothing and its covered by your insurance.

aren’t you that guy who came up with covid cure iirc? Are you going to graduate school or med school? Just curious…

Yes but I hear the test isn’t always accurate.

Yeah man, my teachers are working with me, they want to see me research the idea further and publish in pub med. Pretty cool stuff. But the thing about medicine dude, is its so vast, there is no possible way to know everything outside of what you decide to specialize in. Thats why there are so many different kinds of doctors. Im in my second year; everybody goes through two years of basic medical education thats based on four years of undergrad medical information, then you take an 8 hr board exam then you can work in the hospitals as lie an intern, you work in a specialized department for two years then you take two two day exams then you grad and can practice in your specialty feild working under a doctor for a few years depending on your specialty then your out on your own.
Ive never put much thought into genetic testing for AP’s tho it makes a lot of sence, Ive just never heard of it being practiced before and through my experiences with psychs Ive never come across it not even when hospitalized, so I am excited and suprised.

Is this the so called “genetic testing” ? If so it’s useless.

How so, genes define who you are and why one person responds to a drug differently than another

Best of luck with it.

Thank you, but whats your reasoning for your opinion on it?

It has no clinical trials behind it. It just sounds good. It’s pseudo science.

Actually dont need a clincial trial for a assessments like this. Thats not how genetics works. Their protein expressions, its a black and white test. You are a carrier for a specific protein or your not. The only gray area is the level of expression you carry. It can be in one of theree categories; dominant, recessive or both

My psychiatrist is big on genetics. He kept saying he thought I had bipolar in the beginning because of family history. He’s old school. Much respect like Doctor House. He changed his mind and now agrees it is schizoaffective disorder depressive type.

I have no family history of schizophrenia, just bipolar. I also have Aspergers. He said he has no problem with that anymore since it’s like having acne and schizophrenia, both are possible and you can treat them both or separately I think. A patient can have both conditions.

He uses the genetic test results all the time. I find it useless because there are no meds that are dangerous to me I think. They’re all about the same effectiveness. I feel like it provides some information/intelligence and was probably worth it because I got it for free. Otherwise it would have been 1-2k.

Genesight is the test that they used for me. Medicare paid for mine fully, but it’s a crock of ■■■■. Other than the 5 mutations we found I have that explains why I don’t absorb iron thru infusion, pill, or blood transfusion, and the folic acid one. And I cannot get B12 or a few other vitamins to absorb in any form.

At least it proved that iron was making me sick, the others don’t they just in and out. But I did find a children’s Flintstones “special edition” only red vitamin I can take. No iron, folic acid in it, but has the others in much smaller amounts so I don’t cramp or anything so bad. 2 a day, i forget a lot, but Kiefer’s been reminding me because we had to get the big jar of adult fiber gummies for him. He’ll be going to our pediatrician once our county’s Clovis kid numbers drop and the clinic takes non emergency appts. Then we’ll get the referral to a GI doctor we can trust cause the pediatrician recommended them. Also need to get back into ENT for Kiefer, he’s have a nosebleed every day and it ranges from a thin trickle for 15 mins to a 40 min thick coagulated glob some day. I had to have my nose cauterized as a kid, as did my Papa and his dad Grampa.

But anyway.

Genesight runs 700 bucks us but the company says most you should pay is 330 dollars. They have a website.

How it is a crock if it identified and proved your problem and your benefiting from it? Id say it was effective in identifying the problem as well as identifying the potential of other problems, tho fortunately you had none

For me I think it would be benefitial for preventing a hospitalization from relapse of severe symptoms through medication changes. I have alot going for me right now and cant afford that, so an ounce of prevention will equal a pound of cure in my case. Does sound a bit expensive tho, but hopefully the medicade will pay for it. Thanks for sharing.

My results showed that meds that should work for me, I ended up with bad side effects or was allergic to them. Like 1 dose and it was a nope off that.

The ones it said should not do anything I ended up being able to take, but they did nothing or if I did have a have a slight better chance with it, the dosages were double or triple the max dose, and those would be my 2 weekers.

I was on zyprexa for 7 or 8 years, 40mg dosage, and the first month I gained 70 pounds. I was on that before the test though, because I basically had to be on something and I was slightly less violent with the homicidal tendencies but the suicidal stuff was worse. I never went into the hospital again after March 2008. I worked at USPS, and there’s a reason one “goes postal” working for them. I worked until Dec 31, 2008, then filed for SSDI. Took until 2011 and a lawyer, but I never went in front of a board, never saw their doctors. I had all my paperwork in order. They denied the first time, got the lawyer, he got a date to show up to appeal and the day before he was called to say don’t show we’re approving.

I quit the Zyprexa cold turkey no other APs March 2019. We are waiting for a drug that I can take without dying, and Caplyta is not compatible with my heart conditions, my 9 previous TIAs, and there were a few others but my pdoc spent her time comparing my medical history to what info the doctors are given, and she said absolutely not. So I’m just dealing like always, cause it’s been like this since diagnosis at age 12, never tried any meds for it until 22. I’m 35 now, i have been on it all except lithium and Caplyta. I tried stuff not available here thru a NP who ordered it through patient assistance, but again, no good luck there.

Just my experience, I hope you have one and results that work.

Yeah it has no bearing on sideeffects, Side effects are due to the metabolism of the drug and how it interacts with the other body processes. It can merly correlate the effects it has on the neurochemisty
