Did you have a bad memory shortly before sz?

My negative and cognitive symptoms started 3yrs before my 1st psychosis and diagnosis, I wasnt even on meds yet. I started experiencing working memory problems in university 3yrs before my diagnosis, my grades suffered a lot but I still got my degree. My lowest grade was 55% in one class, epidemiology, I missed class often in that class. Passing grade was 50% but I didnt have the grades to do a specialization or a master eventhough in some courses I had A’s like math related courses.

I must say that I suck in classes that require a good memory like epidemiology, you have to learn everything by heart without visualization etc

I first started to notice memory issues during psychosis. As a matter of fact, I thought I was being slowly poisoned and it was damaging my mind. I don’t really notice it that much now though, if my memory is worse.

I also sucked in emergency care labs and injury treatment labs.

Yea now it doesnt seem bad as I dont use my memory much while staying in bed most of my time. But it was a big problem back when my negative symptoms were better and when I was in university.

Which symptoms did you get first, cognitive or negative symptoms? Sometimes I wonder if they’re related?

The first symptom that I noticed was Anhedonia. I noticed before sz that I was having trouble enjoying things that I used to enjoy.

My memory is weird, always has been. It hasn’t changed though, it’s the same it has always been.

Some things I learn and never forgot, other things I learn and can’t remember 5 minutes later.

In fact I had very good memory for some things… but it was an obsessive memory, while in the same time, I was unable to memories some other things from the reality… in my file, it’s written, that my memory and intellect “are oppressed by the illness”.
But in fact, the brain should forget some things, I’ve read an article about that…
Well, if you forget important things, it can be a problem though, but I believe, that we can still retrain ourselves…
If really neurons die in the psychosis, maybe it’s still OK. Some docs say, that the brain is neuroplastic. Or we should really try to be happy with what we have and just make something awesome with it… it’s possible…
There was a movie about one lady, who had ects because of depression, she forgotten many parts from her life, because of this try, but she found peace and she was OK too…
I believe, that even the normies lose some neurons with their age…
But yeah, maybe we’ll always have a bit of special brains. But maybe the goal is still to feel OK in our skins with that, with less suffering yeap…
Hugs, dear, it’s hard for me too :no_mouth:
