It made me feel manic, I had several big projects, racing thoughts, was spending way too much money, hypersexual, anger issues, very risky behaviors, felt like high on drugs. Even off meds I didn’t feel like that. I wasn’t psychotic on Abilify but felt too amped up and hyper, its a different feeling than psychosis no paranoia etc
no i didnt feel manic. i slept less tho and spent more money but it was no where near mania for me
edit: i was also taking a low dose of it mixed with haldol tho…so who knows if i was taking it by itself at a higher dose
Abilify made me level at first then completely stopped working I was manic after it stopped working a lot a lot of depression too but a abnormal amount of mania more or less hypomania tho I wasn’t out of control I did end up abusing benzos and gambling a lot during the end
I know a guy who gambles a lot on Abilify but he won’t listen to me, I told him its the Abilify giving him gambling addiction but he doesn’t believe me. I stopped talking to him as he was hypersexual too talk about sex a lot in details, bad influence for me. I was like him on abilify
It’s not made me manic. Just extremely sleepy. But I’ve never had a problem with mania before so that might be why. I take 20mg of Abilify in the mornings.
First few years I was on 10mg then went off meds for 2 years back on 20mg Abilify 2016-2019. I felt more manic or addictions on higher dose
Reminds me of being on prozac that made me more manic than anything I could quit meds and get nowhere near as manic tbh and it constantly was a euphoric mania never went away I was basically addicted to it if it were in my home I’d end up abusing it again I think it was a addiction and there’s a article on a guy who abused Zoloft and went manic for a year straight I made a lot of shitty decisions on prozac he also had bipolar disorder however he only had hypomania supposedly
Yes, Abilify made me manic.
I did a lot of impulsive shopping, buying things I thought I would need/needed right that second for plans that never came through, such as traveling.
Overall, I have spent several thousand dollars.
Yeah 20mg is a lot for my body but it stops the voices and visions almost completely. Sorry it cause mania for you. Did it help with voices or?
I spent all my savings and work money while on Abilify then started getting debts on my visa, over 20k$ spent total, I bought 3k$ gaming pc, 10 vapes some were over 100$, ate at restaurants daily sometimes twice a day, bought several stuff online like expensive clothes most I only used once some even never used. My parents helped me pay my debts and I cancelled my visa after going off Abilify. Now I rarely spend and eat out or buy stuff on risperidone.
Yes I wasn’t psychotic on 20mg but had anger issues. Now no anger issues on 6mg risperidone.
Nice I’m glad the risperidone is working for you.
Geez, Abilify is no joke— sorry you went through all that, it truly sucks to be so far out of control impulse-wise.
What did your pdoc say about everything that you went through? Mine didn’t say my impulse control issues were because of Abilify or not— I think doctors are very hesitant to say negative stuff like that about medications unfortunately.
I am still on 20mg Abilify, but now I have an add-on of .25mg Risperidone (my pdoc says it will help with mood stabilization and stuff— so far so good).
Glad to see the Risperidone is working for you
I told him if there was a way to get rid of the impulse issues and he said the only way is to stop the Abilify
There was a guy here i think Unclehenry who gambled a lot on Abilify, he lost his 1 million$ company to gambling
Wow, I’m like, shocked your pdoc was so up front about it— that’s a good thing. Mine said absolutely nothing and kinda acted like it was a character flaw or something.
Wow, that is truly awful. It’s a shame that something so effective like Abilify comes with this type of side effect.
I’m on Abilify it has made me unable to sleep
@Aziz Abilify gave me impulse control like issues with things like compulsive over shopping. It didn’t make me manic though. Abilify is actually approved to treat bipolar mania interestingly enough! I found it not sedating though. Not exactly jittery but not sedating either!
I experienced mania on a high dose of Lexapro. My pdoc lowered it and it went away. I am SZA.
