Do you guys think poeple get depressed if they are on antipsychotics?

I think sometimes people will get depression-like symptoms due to antipsychotics, such as anhedonia or fatigue.
I think those things might lead people to think they’re depressed and eventually become so.

there is in the package leaflet of risperidone that there are actually side effects that resemble depression. Symptoms such as fatigue and a feeling of being trapped in your self. And a flat mood.

Maybe. The only problem is that I started taking the med around the time of my peak in psychosis so I’m not sure if the depression is from the meds or passing the peak of my psychosis. I guess it’s maybe a bit of both med n the illness itself.hope ur feeling better than yesterday

depression is very common with schizophrenia. It’s likely that it may not be the antipsychotic. Most of us are on meds for depression and a large amount for anxiety as well.

I mean that if healthy people take antipsychotics. That they can become depressed.

I personally think over the long term at least maybe yes but it’s a guess I could easily be wrong. Ask ur pdoc…?

I’ve asked my pdoc. He said: It is possible that you could feel like a dead bird due the antipsychotics. But he didn’t talk about depression.
Maybe it’s how you deal with the side effects. IDK

Did you had the feeling that your depression came through your antipsychotics?
I wish I knew. I’m really not sure but maybe from the trauma of psychosis and the medication maybe contributes too but at least it might have got rid of the voices

Yes, I understand. Partly because you absolutely want to prevent another psychosis. I think that people can only stop the medicines if they dare to experience a new psychosis.
