Debating on taking an in person class vs. online

The online university I’ve applied to is just dragging their feet with helping me order all my transcripts. I only have 9 days left for the deadline.

On the positive note open enrollment at the community college begins in a couple days. I can take my lab science there and finish up my associate of arts. Then transfer to a local university. I am thinking about going for American Indian studies.

Ugh. Decisions. I am just doing some soul searching in regards to if I can handle an in person class.

Also, the online university I’ve applied to doesn’t have many majors that interests me.

Thank you for reading :v:

I honestly like online courses more. You can control the pace of it and go back if you missed something. You can take the courses on your own time. You don’t waste time commuting to class. (And you can stay in pjs during! Ha!) I don’t understand why some universities look down on online courses. It is all the same material and workload as an in-person class.

My nursing program is going to be online with the acception of my rotations.

I agree. I got an associate’s degree in criminal justice administration online. It was a pretty heavy workload when I got to the upper 300 level courses. And some of those classes were interesting to say the least haha.

That’s awesome you’re going for nursing.

I prefer online classes, too. Are you able to get your transcripts to them yourself? Most schools make ordering pretty easy if there is still time…

There are a lot of online programs out there. Why look at one that doesn’t have majors that interest you?
I’ve done a lot of research on online schools and might be able to help at some point if you want to look at some other majors.

In person is better for preparing for the workforce but I have an online degree also. Either way is an accomplishment

Thank you @Wendy. I can probably order the transcripts myself. But I’ve already filled out the transcript request form.

I mostly want to finish my bachelors for personal fulfillment vs. trying to go back into the work force.

Do you know of any good online schools that offer a pre-law or philosophy degree? Thank you for any help in advance. Oh, and I am a veteran so preferably a school that accepts the gi bill.

True. Either way is an accomplished goal  What did you get your degree in @TomCat?

 I don’t know off hand and am in the middle of an assignment but I’ll poke around my files/bookmarks as soon as I can and will post back.

I have a bachelors degree in political science and a masters degree in business administration. Next month I will have an associates degree in aviation maintenance technology.

That’s awesome! My big dream is to also get my masters. Either in social work or something like philosophy. Maybe even get a law degree.

I always wanted to go to law school too but it’s very expensive. I have never taken the LSAT though. Maybe I should try it just to see if I could get in.

Yeah you should go for it. There’s lots of study guides you can find at your local library for it.

You were super-practical. Good for you. I started not sure that I’d ever work again and like many, the humanities began to take over my life.

I’m working on an English grad certificate now

Alright, here is one. It’s Philosophy at Arizona State University and a little costly by my standards but they do take the GI Bill. I’ve heard good things about ASU but don’t have any personal experience with them. I’ll keep looking, too.

I’m surprised I forgot about Fort Hays State. They have a lot of programs that I thought were interesting. I nearly enrolled in their Gerontology graduate program but I’m not sure I could do much with that that wouldn’t overload me with people all day. I can only handle so many.

Anyway, it looks like Fort Hays does take the GI Bill, though the information they give is hard to find and vague. That page is here: http://www.fhsu.edu/finaid/Military-Education-Benefits/

And here is the virtual campus page for the BA in Philosophy: http://www.fhsu.edu/virtualcollege/degrees/bachelors/philosophy/

This is probably some of the cheapest tuition in the country. Fort Hays has been really good about keeping it down.

American Military University also has an online Philosophy program with a tuition grant available to veterans and the site says “Federal Student Aid and Armed Forces Tuition Assistance accepted.” I assume the GI Bill falls under that but do not know for certain. Either way, it looks like very low tuition. I think Philosophy might be a bit like English: there are not, for some reason, a huge amount of online programs. But let me know if you need anything else and good luck.
