This is my SX Ursa 1 bass (basically a P-Bass) modified with a Hipshot Kickass bridge (black-finished piece of metal at the bottom) and a DiMarzio Model P pickup (the other black thingy). My neighbor Roger helped with the soldering on the pickup installation this morning. I just got done playing it for an hour or so and enjoyed the heck out of it. The action is fairly low, making it easy to play, and the pickup (it’s actually a sort of microphone) sounds loud and punchy. My neighbors are really cool about the noise factor. I always play according to the ordinance.
very cool my man…you in a band?
Not right now, but I’m thinking of advertising on craigslist for other musicians. Thanks.
Looks very cool ! It’s great that you have an interest like that and also that you’re good at it.
Thank you, @everhopeful. It’s always nice to have a fan!
What a cool hobby!
More power to you @Borath!
Thanks a lot, @Wave! Now it’s time to play out in the music community. I’ve been out of the loop for a long time. Doubtless the scene has changed somewhat, as my area is growing.
Those are nice looking saddles. Kickass!
Yeah, Hipshot decided to use brass inserts for the saddles. I’ve decided I like them, too. The bridge makes the volume quite even across all 4 strings. It sounds pretty amazing. I suppose the base is made of zinc and finished in black (zinc is what they use on the original Badass bridges).
I opted for the “Model P” pickup because Billy Sheehan used to use those. His band, I think you know, is Mr. Big. A Duncan Quarter Pound P would’ve been more obvious, but I’ve had good luck with DiMarzio.
Thanks for the comment
Yup. Brass is the way to go in my opinion for fixed bridge electrics for sustain and reduced friction. Paul Gilbert is quite a player with an unusual picking style I admire but don’t do myself. Later man.
