Craving for a Benzo

The clinic here won’t even prescribe any kind of benzo… they’ll give you Ativan in the hospital but once you get out then they won’t prescribe it.

I am on Xanax 4mg a day for I’m guessing 15 years.
I’m dependent on them to manage symptoms and anxiety.
I think i’m on it for life like my other meds.

I’ve never been the same after using benzos longterm. I still have moments of physical panic where I crave a chemical soother of whatever kind. I don’t want to get back on it out of principle.

In your case, I think it’s the coffee withdrawal. It should be over soon!

Is there anything lighter that takes off the edge? Herbal tea, running cold water over your wrists. etc?

I took lorazepam in hospital for a few weeks and it worked great but they wouldn’t prescribe it when I was discharged. The gp wront give me it. I rely on relaxation

How long have you been on gabapentin?

@TheLogician I have been on gabapentin for 4 years at least.

And gabapentin works better for me than klonopin. I am able to do much more in life without my severe anxiety disorder holding me back compared to when I was on klonopin.

Also when I took klonopin I kept having to increase my dose because my body became accustomed to it. With gabapentin I’ve not had to do this.

And I don’t have any side effects from it.

Interesting
I’m on Klonopin for almost 10 years and thankfully I’m still at same dose…never had to increase :crossed_fingers:

But yeah I’m still not completely anxiety free

How did you get your pdoc to prescribed them? And was the withdrawal due to you stopping them or over use?

I ask because I really need something to deal with my emotions and anxiety…it’s bad for me right now

It was my gp that prescribed them to me. I just told him I was having multiple panic attacks a week.

The withdrawal was from me stopping the ativan. I was taking quite a bit everyday for months and then stopped.

I take 0.5mg of Klonopin only when I’m feeling anxious or revved up from mania

I don’t take it everyday liked I used to at one time in the past.

I’m on 0.5mg a day religiously

Unfortunately a few hours after skipping the dose, I can definitely feel it

I’m on a pretty high dose. My last dr who retired recently started me on gabapentin and put me on this dose. She said she could increase it more if we needed to, which wasn’t necessary. My new and current dr commented that my gabapentin dose is high. I don’t know who to believe.
