I know debit/credit cards are used a lot to pay for things . However sometimes cash is used. I could never be a checkout person, as , although on paper my arithmetical skills are above average, I’d struggle to give change in a real life situation. Working out how much of each coin to give in the correct order , and then the notes , seems to come automatically to a person working at a checkout . It wouldn’t come automatically to me though.

I used to work on the check out, and believe me, it didn’t come naturally for me either. I have little confidence in my mathematics, and start panicking that i’m going to make a mistake. Then because i was panicking, i couldn’t think straight and i’d start panicking that i’m taking too long to figure it out and that the other person must think i’m stupid. Aahhg!! So i know how you feel.

A lot of people I reckon turn up their noses at people who work on a checkout , or at somewhere like McDonald’s . However both jobs require a person to be quick(not a good job if you have a slow processing speed) and efficient.
