Has anyone on here successfully lost weight taking Clozaril? If so, how? Because I’m on it and having difficulty.
Clozaril does increase appetite (and so do most other neuroleptics by antagonizing the dopamine in your brain). A dietitian may not be able to help.
If Clozaril happens to be the only reasonable choice, at least stay away from all products containing fructose (like high fructose corn syrup), and limit your carbohydrates intake.

I think the appetite increasing effect of neuroleptics is a combination of serotonin and histaminic antagonism actually. The newer generation drugs basedoff clozaril will all do this to some extent. For that reason I think they are terrible for your health as well as your body image.

I’m on it and doing well, but I’d like to lose some weight, too.
But because it’s such a good medicine, I don’t mind the weight and blood tests.
I guess I just like to complain?
Did you stop purging @stellaglow?
Please get help for it if your having trouble.

No, I’ve purged twice today; and I may purge a third time after eating some crackers (haven’t decided yet).
Getting help for EDs isn’t easy and it’s expensive (last place wanted $750 copay for anything over IOP, and I’m sure I’ll need PHP at least).

Clozaril has exactly the opposite effect on me, it has caused massive weight gain, I was up to 240 lbs at one point and am at 215 lbs now. The good news is I work out alot so most of it has been muscle mass, it has had a steroid like effect!

My sister gained 65 lbs while on Clozaril. In turn, her weight gain caused her to have high blood pressure and serious constipation that required hospitalization. She started getting seizures and experienced major drooling and pinpoint pupils. There are over 100 known side effects from Clozaril. It is not prescribed in all countries.
