Closing Accounts, Saving Money

I’ve made no secret that I’m low income. To save more money we decided to cut our major luxury, Cable Tv.

We have now saved an embarrassing amount. I didn’t know what the bill was, my husband handled it. But now, even with our internet speed at the top of what Spectrum offers, our bill is now under $100. Paramount+ has live tv and is $9.99 a month compared to the high cost of cable tv! A feqction!

I also looked through my auto bill accounts and closed some things that are only like $1 -$3 a month that I paid for with my check. It adds up.

All in all our savings are $160 a month now. Money we didn’t even realize was going out because we were so used to paying the little hits.

Now we can probably afford to raise our car insurance coverage. It’s important because of the amount of deer here and winter impending with bad drivers and icy roads.

Moral of the story- pay attention to your auto subscriptions and also CUT THE CORD.

My family can’t live without tv channels.

All I need is a good internet connection, which my phone subscription already provides.

I rarely if ever watch tv, but for older generations it is a lot harder to let go.

Yeah, I know. For so e reason it is very difficult for them to learn how to use apps and streaming.

Hey @anon4362788 I gave up cable TV several years ago. I only have the starter WiFi service. It’s $45 a month, but I qualified for the low income ACP $30 credit Uncle Sam gives you. My bill is only $15 a month, and I can stream TV minus broadcast channels which I get on an antenna anyway.

Have you tried getting the ACP credit for your internet/phone service?

We have it. We just have the top tier speed so it’s more expensive. Before upgrading the streaming buffered all the time.

We did the same review of our budget sheet back in June. Amazing what you can live without when you put your mind to saving money! And yes, all those little things really add up fast.

I don’t watch much TV because of my TV delusion, talking about me and monitoring me. I mostly listen to the radio.

This topic makes me think of @labratmat . He’s full of saving tips too!

Screw cable. I’ve never paid for it. I asked my dad to get it in 2013 so he did but then I moved a few months later so he canceled it. I got SSI in 2016 and have been paying for streaming TV to save money.

You just reminded me to cancel my “Plushcare” account. 15 dollars a month I don’t need to pay for. Only joined for getting Covid meds over the weekend when I had it. If I ever get Covid or a medical emergency again I might use it again, but I can always rejoin. NO need to pay a recurring subscription that I’m not using.
