Characteristics of real-world driving behavior in people with schizophrenia: a naturalistic study utilizing drive recorders

This was comforting to read, but I suppose not that surprising, once I think about it. Paranoia is a big symptom. It makes sense that schizophrenics are more cautious drivers.

I’ve been driving for over 40 years with schizophrenia and I’ve only had one accident that was my fault. I’ve got about 4 or 5 tickets though. I’ve been hit a few times and collected from their insurance.

40th year of driving for me. One ticket for a rolling stop when I was 16, and that’s it. No at fault accidents. One deer hit in 2007 and that was in a snow storm.

I’m a cautious driver but i have driving anxiety unrelated to sza. No tickets or accidents that were my fault since i was 20, so 30 years of good driving. The driving anxiety makes it hard to go visit friends that live in the hills…i just don’t trust my car to make it.
