Celebrating 35 years clean and sober today

I use to love my drugs and booze but I love sobriety more. AA, CA and NA work.

They told me “Take it one day at a time” and “keep coming back” and I listened and they were right.

It’s a good feeling, isn’t it? I admitted to myself that I was an alcoholic in 1991. I started attending AA meetings. In and out, in and out of AA. I wasn’t able to put any sober time together until 1998. I went to a 30-day outpatient rehab and stayed sober for 4 years. Then, I had a horrible 10-month relapse. After a 7-day hospitalization, I went into a 30-day inpatient rehab in 2003. Now, I’m 68 and have more than 20 years sober. I never liked going to AA meetings, but I went anyway. One of the things that motivates me to stay sober is knowing that, if I pick up a drink, I will have to go back to AA.
