I haven’t had a drink in 50 days.
Congratulations! I have been clean/sober from my drug of choice for about one month. I went to the first NA meeting in a year recently. It helped a bit I want to continue doing meetings and I want to find some online NA Meetings and Groups.
Some of the local AA groups are doing zoom meetings. I don’t know about NA.
Congrats on your success too.
29+ years in AA.
Congratulations @shutterbug. That’s quite an accomplishment.
7 years sober for me.
Haven’t smoked weed in 15 months
That’s awesome @JaBrown @everhopeful
I’m not sure how to answer this, maybe you can make a suggestion. I’ve been sober from thc mj for about 10 months. Starting in April of this year, I’ve started using hemp which has less than .3% thc. So technically, I’m no longer sober but it is without thc which as we all know is bad for sz.
I don’t know about hemp, but congratulations on ten months sober. I’m hoping to make it that long too.
@anon54988740 have you seen the movie Another Round? It’s Danish about a group of middle aged teachers who try to live functionally buzzed/ drunk. It may be triggering for you though or helpful.
And 10 months sober sounds good.
No I haven’t seen that movie. I know I can’t continue drinking. For me it’s a problem.
What is the longest period of sobriety you’ve had in the last 5 years? And what do you like/ dislike about your drinking?
Two years. I don’t like being an alcoholic and not being able to stop once I start drinking. I used to think the drinking made my problems go away, or at least I could forget about them for a while.
Two years is good. In my past 5 years, these 10 months have been my longest stretch. I’ve been able to get some sober time by befriending someone on this site and asking if they’d be a temporary sponsor. Thankfully, he said yes and always responded whenever I dm’ed him with a craving to use. I just reached out more (like you are doing) plus he had some sage advice.
Drinking is much more difficult to control than mj. It’s so convenient to pick up a bottle. You can’t od on hemp but you can certainly overdo alcohol. Stay connected with meetings or people on this site.
Thanks @gene 15
Gave up drugs about 14 years ago
Still drink around the holidays
Glad to hear it @Cloudd3ad. Congratulations
Hey, good for you. NA can be a good place to socialize and meet people and talk to people.
There’s an old AA or NA adage: “Stick with the winners.” It means talk and share with the people who are serious about their recovery. Don’t get mixed up with the people who are there for the free coffee or don’t be friends with the people who claim they are clean and sober, “Except for a little drink or a joint every now and then.” If someone stops drinking but they still smoke a little pot every now and then that is not being clean.
I got clean in 1990 and got a sponsor who took me through the steps. Being clean and sober means total abstinence from all drugs including alcohol. I mean everybody deserves a chance to get clean but when I first got clean in a group home I went to a meeting there once a week but people from other group homes would come over and just treat the program like a big joke and a place to go talk with their friends.
Making friends is a good thing but getting and staying clean is the most important thing and that’s what meetings are for.
Some of them might have eventually got clean but the majority were just a distraction and the old timers saw right through them. Good luck in your sobriety.
