Hey guys so I think I got ill from smoking LOTS of marijuana back in my 20s. I used to love the heavy THC brain high.
Fast forward, I ended up having an episode of psychosis. Mostly bad auditory hallucinations.
My psychiatrist has me down as schizophrenic. I also suffer from GAD. I suffered from anxiety a good 10 years before my psychotic episode. I have read many good things about CBD oils for psychosis and especially my anxiety disorder but when I asked my psychiatrist about a year ago , she said it might not be for me.
What do you guys think? Maybe one super low on THC or no THC at all?!
Try low/no thc cbd supplements, experiment if you feel the need, personally for me cbd water and gummies help with anxiety, I don’t know about psychosis and I’m not a Dr but I think cbd is wonderful.
From what I read, CBD oil works best if there is at least Trace Amounts of THC in it. One activates the other
Does it work for psychosis? I have no idea. It sounds like a case of trial and error, try it and see if it helps you. But it seems from what others have said it would be an expensive venture
Are you in a living situation where you could grow a few plants? You would have to do your research online, and make sure you were getting seeds that produce high-cbd plants. The vast majority of marijuana seeds now, are aimed at only providing a high-quantity of THC, and almost zero CBD.
Thanks for your advice guys!
I don’t plan to use it alone. I want to see if it just helps at least my anxiety. I will continue to take my benzodiazepine along with it.
Maybe just decrease my clonazepam a touch if the CBD can mellow me out!
Probably no CBD at all, unless you have pain or something else it treats. Some people it really helps. It doesn’t do anything for me. I’m one of those people more sensitive to THC; and while it helps with tinnitus, and other things, the mania/feeling kind of annoys me. I tried CBD and it does nothing, which led me to want to smoke weed.
Are you independently wealthy? Because CBD is expensive and generally only works at higher doses that most can’t afford. You’d need to go with one that has no THC at all. THC and SZ together are generally bad juju.
THC is a terrible idea for psychosis. It will make you about 80% more likely to have an episode. Our main page has a link about drugs and psychosis.
I do take a CBD supplement for my anxiety, and it helps me enough that I was able to stop taking my daily anxiety med over a year ago. I buy a lab-tested zero THC brand. It is fairly expensive, but I do believe it helps. My local dispensary said that, for anxiety, low doses of CBD actually tend to work better than high doses. I take 10 mg morning and night.
Be wary of the stuff that seems like a very cheap deal. It is provably garbage that doesn’t actually have CBD, at least not in the dose it claims. You always want to ask for the independent, 3rd party batch lab test. For gummies, I pay $45 for a 50 pack of 10 mg gummies. For the straight oil, I pay $45 for 2,000 mg. There is a HUGE difference in cost. The only reason I liked the gummies was because I could put them in my pillbox. Now that I use liquid medicine, I have a different setup. It is easier to use the oil with my new setup.
If you were a heavy pot user back in the day, I will say others on here have mentioned the taste of CBD oil to be triggering for them and make them crave pot again. Others have said it helps them stay clean.
I tried cbd 15mg once a day. It seemed to calm me slightly, but I get better effect from other herbs. I am currently taking valerian root with lemon balm and hops for anxiety and as a relaxant, however I avoid taking them at the same time of day as ap because there is some interaction.
If you are interested in supplements, I think amyloban has given me the most relief out of any supplement I have tried. It is a concentrated form of Lions Mane mushroom, and has been shown in studies to reduce psychotic symptoms in some people. It also, as an added benefit, helps treat nerve pain.
Thanks! You mean amyloban helps calm you most?
I wanted to try Reishi a few years back but I’m on Clozaril. I asked my local pharmacist about it, along with other supplements I wanted to try , but my answer was always no. It’s pretty depressing.
