Catatonia may not be directly related to schizophrenia

Interesting article on how Catatonia is not directly related to sz or bipolar or depression but may be a separate component.

I sometimes get what seems to be the beginning of catatonia but then it seems to pass.

Persistent stare
Slow movements
Freezing up for several minutes at a time

Luckily with meds it disappeared from the western world.

I don’t think it has, but it’s just rarely talked about. Antipsychotics have no effect on catatonia.

Mine stopped with APs. If you still have it try catatonia meds (I think benzodiazepines). I found that weed triggers and worsens catatonia.

I have catatonia only. Negative symptoms is actually side effects of catatonia. Unlike full freezing my catatonia is partial like this girl in the video.

It is also been talked about as being possibly separate from sz

My catatonia not respond to benzos instead it makes me dizzy and disoriented. Also i not feel any fear inside like this article saying instead a blank mind, nothing to think, no thoughts.

Yeah I get it too. No fear

Jus blank and frozen

I am also hypothyroid and taking thyroid replacement medicine levothyroxine daily. I found that reducing levothyroxine dose make catatonia worse. I think it have something to do with dopamine, low level of dopamine worsens catatonia gives Parkinson like extrapyramidal symptoms.

Tulsi (holy basil) tea helps to relieve stiffness a bit. Also i found bending down helps to relive forehead stiffness not know the mechanism of this.

Do you experienced this kind of feeling?

When lie down on bed some times get a strange feeling in head converging to a point. Some times feel heart beat pulsing feeling in head. If not move head it not converge otherwise it converge and feel like it explode. At that time if open eyes see some worm like specks similar to lightening strike specks. When this feeling converge to a point hard to move body. After explode able to come out as if nothing happened.

I had Catatonia at the start of my psychosis. It’s a very frightening thing to go through looking back on it

no mine is more i feel like ive frozen , i dont move, just staying still and i just stare blankly for usually up to 5 minutes. thank goodness its short. and ill also feel just very slow and waxy. it usually comes and goes for a couple days then goes away. I have no idea why it happens.

Did you have it while on antipsychotics too? Mine went away with proper meds but it did still happen at low doses or with weak meds like Latuda.

it didnt start happening until about 2017
im not sure mine is related to sz, thats why ive been reading about other potential reasons it could happen

Did you movements robotic like this girl in the video?

Mine like this. I never had full freezing even for 5 seconds. Mine is partial freezing like this girl in the video. When walking hands get still, face gets still and it appear like robotic walking. Forget to even blink eyes.

yeah but for me it is very brief. not like the lady in video which is going on for long time (days, weeks, etc)
