Can't tell if my dreams are trying to teach me or just be cruel

The past few nights I have had ceaseless nightmares. They are the worst kind of nightmare too, they are very long and just involve me having to kill or be killed over and over again. Last night I was inside of a choose your own adventure game, so was constantly making choices. There was no obvious way to discern what the best choice was to make. You’d make a choice that seemed harmless and it would end up getting you gruesomely killed.

After many, many deaths I began to try to look ahead in the little manual I had in the dream that listed all my choices for me so I could find the right one, but then the dream just started timing me so I had no time to find the best choice. Then finally I got fed up after I made it really far only to make a “bad” choice again, and instead of accepting my death and going back to the start I transformed into beast form and butchered the lady trying to kill me.

I was then taken into a room with an elf. Like santas elf. The elf said I had been very naughty. (Ie I was not supposed to have used my powers) Thus I had to be punished…and he had this death ray…I woke up before anything else happened. I’ve really been trying to decipher and understand my dreams lately, but they feel like my subconscious just being incredibly cruel to me.

This is the symbolism for killing:

To dream that you kill someone indicates that you are on the verge of losing your temper and self-control. Consider the person you have killed and ask yourself if you feel any rage towards her or him in your waking life. Your dream may be expressing some hidden anger. Alternatively, you may be trying to kill an aspect of yourself that is represented by the person killed. Identify the characteristics of this person and ask yourself which of these qualities you are trying to put an end to.

To dream that you have been killed suggests that your actions are disconnected from your emotions and conscience. The dream refers to drastic changes that you are trying to make. There is a characteristic that you want to get rid of or a habit that you want to end within yourself. Killing represents the killing off of the old parts and old habits. Alternatively, the dream represents feelings of being let down or betrayed by someone in your waking life. You are feeling overwhelmed, shocked and disappointed.

Also, this just sounds awesome to me. Haha. Sorry if that sounds inconsiderate in any way

This dream of yours sounds very vivid and I can’t believe you remember so much of your dreams. I take medication for nightmares called prazosin, it’s a good medicine but it can make you drowsy so I always take it before bed time. I don’t know alot about dream meanings, but maybe this medicine can help you out?

Yeah I love using my powers in dreams, it is awesome. My beast form is a mix between a werewolf and dragon and is overpowered lol. But sometimes my subconscious doesn’t want me to use my powers, and it definitely doesn’t like it when I refuse to follow the story plot of the dream and just want to enjoy myself. I feel like my subconscious is this entity I’m constantly in conflict with and I hate it.

And yes those interpretations were basically the same feeling I had about the dream meanings, but regardless they can just seem excessively cruel at times. My subconscious is a very harsh, even sadistic teacher.

@neveragain I tried prazosin, to act as a replacement for benzos to try to stop my flashbacks/help me sleep but it didn’t work and just messed up my blood pressure or something so I’d get blackouts. When I mentioned this to my therapist she took me off of it. I wasn’t really on it long enough to notice if it was helping with my nightmares or not though I was also hoping it’d do that.

@aliali in my experience returning the cruelty to my subconscious ends up with me getting my ass kicked 100x harder, unfortunately
