Cannabis is not a cause of schizophrenia, says biggest study yet

the most likely to try pot and keep using it

are with a precondition to sz, they donā€™t have the illness yet,

but after of use, they will get it full blown.
This is not a new study.

Iā€™ve been talking about this for years.

The words ā€œlikelyā€ and ā€œnot a causeā€ seem contradictory to me. I couldnā€™t read the whole article. I donā€™t think we know yet. We donā€™t have a crystal ball. Thereā€™s incentives on both sides to prove it does and to prove it doesnā€™t cause schizophrenia. I tend to believe the 23andme studyā€™s conclusion that it does or it can trigger and worsen schizophrenia. I feel bad for those where itā€™s legalized. It may take decades for us to find out it causes schizophrenia, kind of like what happened to cigarettes being dangerous and causing cancer. There was a lot of misinformation on both sides.

I remember when I was a normie smoking pot I used to hang out with a SZ who smoked up as well. Told me it helped him keep his voices under control.

It affects everyone differently but for me personally it triggered my SZA.

I still believe marijuana shouldnā€™t be consumed by individuals who suffer from MI

Iā€™ve read some of the research and it is pretty interesting, but I think it is hard to weed out (no pun intended) those who self medicate because they may be on the verge of a break. In that instance, did it ā€˜causeā€™ it, or maybe just help it along?

These are group studies, so you wouldnā€™t need to weed them out. If cannabis causes schizophrenia, even if itā€™s only for a small minority, itā€™s enough that some of those are in the study. As the evidence stands now, itā€™s unlikely that cannabis causes schizophrenia at all.

personally, from experience, as a szā€™ic, and even on meds,

I know itā€™s not something I can do.

Unless I want to hear voices again.

And thatā€™s why people with a disposition towards negative or positive symptoms still shouldnā€™t smoke weed. It tends to make the symptoms worse. And especially with negative symptoms, itā€™s easy to convince yourself that you handle cannabis fine when you donā€™t. Speaking from experience.

well, also, terrible ā€œParanoia faith destroyerā€

I canā€™t wait for weed to become legal in my state. Iā€™m going to try again for the first time since my sz diagnosis.

Will I join with all of the weed haters on the site? Or will I join with weed supporters on the site?

We shall seeā€¦

Idk it might have triggered something for me that could have been there already. I think my anixety mix with weed is what probably did it though. Cause i would smoke and feel no anxiety or at least stop me from sweating in uncomfortable situations. I stop smoking and the voices got louder over time though. Its hard to pin point. Ima bit all over the place cause i wanna say weed triggered it but it didnt do it by itself. I had alot going on when i started hearing voices. I think for some people genetics or not it just can while for most like all my buddies and family its probably not going to happen. I have a friend whose been smoking since 12 years old and i mean blunts and joints to the face and heā€™s just fine. Works at fed ex and makes like over 25 dollars an hour and still smokes to this day. Sz is not going to happen to everybody who does drugs but some will experince some sort of psychotic symptom like paranoia. But voices and delusions? I dont think thats going to happen to every person who smokes weed in the future and definately not the present

So is it a case of schizophrenia being present already pre cannabis use but it has just not yet been picked up on and diagnosed? There are plenty of people who who use cannabis who develop schizophrenia but are not seen as having schizophrenia till several years after starting to use cannabis. Or is it a case of cannabis use being present pre illness but the amount and frequency increases with the development of the illness ?

Never did cannabis, and I have schizophrenia.

I canā€™t blame mine on marijuana because I also used an unknown substance. I think it was a combination of shaman plants back in 2011. I ruined my life. I used a lot. I totally lost touch of reality. Iā€™m still suffering. Itā€™s been 7 years. Still think Iā€™m in a computer sometimes. Like reality is a hallucination or in my mind. Iā€™m 98% over it though.

Iā€™m hoping to bring awareness. I still donā€™t know what I bought. I know it was legal. I guess it would be on par with lsd and dmt. Someday I hope to find out.
