Hello, I just wanted to know if its a good idea to be smoking weed while i have schizophrenia? Is it possible for me to smoke weed without having more symptoms?
It’s generally a terrible idea.
Really bad idea. Marijuana will only excaberate delusional and psychotic thinking.
CBD oil may help though. I’ve never tried it before but the idea behind it is that THC causes psychotic symptoms and CBD can possibly reduce psychotic symptoms.
Please please dont do it… i know you will have the craving … i had too… but its not worth it… you will end up getting back all your symptoms and a possible relapse.
So weed is a strict no when you have schizophrenia… i quit weed and its all good now. Been like that since the last 2 years… you can do it too.
Did you hear voices?
I rarely hear voices. So i guess this is a bad idea, like your all saying?
Yes i heard voices … it was really bad… i got all my delusions back for that time… couldnt what was real and what wasnt… i became very weak.
What were they saying? Were they from someone recognizable? How did you get rid of them?
I dont remember what they said but i could tell that the voices were calling out my name in a rather unpleasent manner. I talked to my doctor about it and he put me on a higher dose for the time being. Luckily i got rid off the symptoms and never smoked weed again.
No it’s not a good idea to smoke weed, especially if you suffer with a psychotic disorder like schizophrenia.
I had strain-based effects, which is to say, unless you’re actually prescribed medical (and they probably won’t prescribe to someone with psychosis) and know what to buy, you shouldn’t smoke weed if you have psychotic symptoms. I absolutely did get worse temporarily when I smoked.
It’s generally a bad idea for most people with schizophrenia. If you aren’t doing it presently it would be good to not try and just leave it alone. Aside from the fact that it is expensive and illegal in most states it can also trigger episodes and ramp up the paranoia. If you try it just be aware of the risks.
I had this conversation just two days ago, with someone fighting Psychosis. I will tell you exactly what I said to him. “ In general, weed and other mind altering substances are inprudent for the average person as it has been proven to trigger cognitive issues such as psychosis etc. For us, those who have been diagnosed as having schizophrenia or psychosis, it is the equivalent of the Achilles heel, our Kyptonite etc”
Why would one continue to do something, knowing it is continuously making them more sick…?
It’s generally harmless and even healthy in many ways for the general population. However it can be quite dangerous for people with psychotic conditions, it is variable though. I have bipolar with psychosis and weed is generally fine for me assuming I am taking my meds. And CBD is a cannabinoid from cannabis with actual antipsychotic properties which further complicates the issue. One day if I can afford it, I would try using a heavy dose of CBD as my antipsychotic
Marijuana is no longer the mellow '70s drug that it is frequently referenced as. Growers have bred it to be many times as potent and sellers even lace it with other chemicals (bleach, formaldehyde, cocaine) to enhance the experience.
A large number of people in this country have used cannabis. Some get chained to their bong which is a dark place. Most have survived and many adult users do it recreationally. It depends on age, genes and how the environment impacts those genes. Churchill was accused of being a drunk in parliament - his words: “it has given more than it has taken away.” If taking away, stop use; it’s not crack.
This is pretty much in the same category as dousing yourself with gasoline while you’re on fire and wondering if the conflagration will get any worse.
