Will smoking weed now on meds make my schizophrenia (if I had it) worst in the future so I would have a less chance of coming off meds cleanly

So I’m on invega and just switched to Abilify and I’ve been symptom free for about a year but I’m wondering if smoking weed will make my chances of getting off meds lower.

For most people with psychosis issues cannabis is not recommended.

That said,

I smoke everyday.

Some people can, some people can’t.

It’s very individual.

Do you have a history of losing your ■■■■ on weed?

If yes, don’t do it.

I can’t handle weed anymore. It just makes me too paranoid, the high isn’t even enjoyable.

Smoking weed while on Abilify made me psychotic and it was even worse than off med!

Did you become psychotic on marijuana before meds? Thats the question to ask before you go that road

Um yea, I would not risk doing any recreational drugs if you have schizophrenia.

My pdoc forbade it too.

Some people have an allergy to weed and should never take it. For the others, in moderation it can be quite therapeutic

A lot of schizophrenics have to find out the hard way that weed is bad for them.

The issue of weed crops up frequently on here. Yes - most of us have tried it - to self medicate the condition. But its bad news. It will just increase your positive symptoms. And your essentially undoing the anti-psychotics your probably taking.

If you wanna use for anxiety - go the CBD route - some have found that helpful.

Whatever happened to medicinal aspect of cannabis?? It just makes me numb and helps me feel life

Although it did accelerate the speed of my voices when smoked while psychosis, but it’s not a hallucinogen, it doesn’t make you see things. That’s SZ not cannabis

States would never legalize it if it had hallucination components

I did some research and it is an hallucinogen… :no_mouth: and a lot of cases of psychosis. Sorry for the earlier post… maybe I’m in denial.

I hallucinated a bunch on marijuana. I think it just depends on the person

Not really a good idea i wouldnt risk it but its your choice though.

I don’t currently smoke, but I’ve smoked roughly for 15 years, but I never hallucinated on weed…

I was smoking heavily when I first got audio hallucinations, it was so abrupt. But the psychosis continued even after I’ve stopped smoking cannabis. I doubt that it’s Cannabis-induced-psychosis, for it lasted about two years, then diagnosed. It’s possible that lead me to it though

I think weed made me have psychosis at an earlier age, 20.

Yeah… research says the earlier you start smoking, the higher the risk of SZ

Maybe I would have gotten psychosis even if I didn’t smoke weed but I believe it made the sz appear earlier as I had my first psychotic symptoms a year before my diagnosis the first time I smoked weed at 19 y.o. I heard robots talking to me when I was smoking weed, they also told me to do bad criminal stuff like raping my mother. It was traumatizing. The next day I punched a glass door, punched and made holes in walls and kicked and shattered the glass of the fireplace.

My brothers held me on the ground so I calm down.
