Can you explain/describe ECT?

I want to know all about it.

I think someone is getting it at my hospital.

Electric shocks in the brain right?

How does it work? Any stats on success rates? Any horror stories? :frowning_with_open_mouth:

I wonder about it. I’ve seen people after and they are fragged out

We have a member here who is not active anymore that did ECT.

I don’t want to tag them in the event they don’t want to talk about it.

And, like I said, they’re not active.

They did have improvement, but said the memory loss was almost not worth it.

Caused a lot of other issues in their life,

But they did make a breakthrough on the depression.

Also wanted to say that I believe they were able to get off some medications which helped with weight loss.

i had ECT a few years ago. it didn’t hurt because i was put to sleep. they messed up my hair with some slimy gel and i was very confused after and i cried alot. i was convinced my partner left me . my mum came for a visit and she gave me a whole bunch of sticky notes to help me remember. she wrote, amongst other things why i’m in hospital and that my partner loves me and wants to take me home but can’t visit every week .

i spent hours crying and looking out the window. i was not allowed out like other patients. i was under some ‘order’.

when i was finally discharged i was a very different person. i behaved differently and would do anything asked of me without hesitation. for example, before ECT i wouldn’t touch raw meat when it came to cooking because it would sicken me. i came home from hospital and i was dicing raw chicken meat .

i felt totally re programmed. my partner took advantage of this like i was his new woman in the bedroom.
i have memory loss. i lost a great chunk of precious memories. my partner would bring up something from the past and i would only stare blankly unable to recall. my memory is like swiss cheese. my short term memory is just as bad. my partner wants me tested for early onset dementia but i don’t want to know because it scares me.

has it helped my schizophrenia? no.
it’s the combination of medicines that are keeping me out of hospital.

Ive had probably 80 treatments in the last 16 years. I wouldn’t recommend ect because a good portion of my life has been erased, I would love to have my memory back.

ECT sounds dangerous.

They shouldn’t do these things.

I know certain mushrooms cause neurogenesis of brain tissue.

I hope somebody researchs that and gets it FDA approved.

I had it. Messed up my memory. :shrimp::shrimp::shrimp:
