Someone close to me is convinced that paleo diet + supplements will cure my sz. She won’t stop trying to convince me of it, and tries to get me on diet.
I have told her that her belief isn’t disprovable. I don’t think any science has tried to prove it or disprove it. I am doing the research. I don’t know how to defend my opposition to the idea, besides actually trying it and watching it fail.
Be honest with her and tell her she’s being childish and even disrespectful. Sz is a serious brain disease, eating nuts or whatever isn’t going to cure it.
There is only one cure and thats the meds. When I say that I mean by taking the medication you can try tapering off after a period of time which I’m talking years. My mam once thought if I went on a juice diet my sz would be cured just because she read it in a book. There is no cure. I’m also not saying meds are the only way as they come with nasty side effects and I don’t like taking them. Some of us can live without meds (I’m not one of them up too now I’ve tried a few times) and some of us have no choice but to take them. I feel I have no choice at the moment but I think it’s for the best for the next 5 years.
Ignore your friend a doubt she has any idea how your illness effects you never mind trying to come up with a cure.
The burden of proof is on them. They have to show you the evidence behind their belief. Scientific studies (double blind, placebo controlled are the best) with a reasonable number of people (e.g. 100 would be a start), that show success with this approach.
Of course - there are none.
I could say eating flying pink elephants for dinner will cure your sz - but again, unless I have strong evidence that demonstrates it - I’m just talking nonsense.
