Can’t afford my catheters. Ugh!

So I’m shopping around for a store that charges less. My dr sent me to this particular durable medical equipment store, and I think they’re overpriced by a lot.

What’s frustrating me is I called my insurance for in-network options and no one company they sent me to actually sells catheters.

So I’m now googling catheters and asking each one if they take my insurance. It’s very frustrating. Ugh!

I’m sorry. That is so frustrating.

I had to catherize for three months last year when I was drinking a lot of liquid. These guys take Medicaid or Medicare.

I hope you can find catheters covered by your insurance.

I’m sorry this is happening. May I pm you?

Dealing with a bureaucracy can be maddening. Someone in the press ought to check in to those places to see if they are overcharging.

I agree @crimby! They charge A LOT for both meds and durable medical equipment. It’s ridiculous.

In a situation like that they will overcharge if they can get away with it. I wouldn’t rock the boat too much, though, because they just might be immoral enough to harass you if you get on the nerves. Telephone calls can suddenly take a lot longer to go through, and then when you get someone they act like they don’t know what you mean. Personally, I’m having trouble with my banks. I hate them.

Yeah. I’m only calling each company once to avoid issues like that.

I hope you find some that you can afford. That’s pretty essential, obviously

I have a friend with prostate issues who needs catheters. He has practically no health insurance so he’s been buying “insemination rods” from vet supply dealers on eBay for much less than he can buy catheters for locally. They’re practicall the same thing. He has an alcohol bath he soaks them in before using so sterility is not a concern. You can also reuse if they’ve been soaked in alcohol.

Thanks @Zoe

@shutterbug , I’ll look into that. If I decide I trust it, I’ll try it

He’s been doing it for three months and no UTIs or injuries. Just run your finger over the tip with a gloved finger first to make sure nothing is sharp (and you can fix that with a high grain sandpaper).

@shutterbug , I’m looking but none are the size I need. I have diseased tissue that was burned off anc needs to come out during cathing. But I really appreciate your suggestions. Thanks so much!

They have them for different sized animals. Look at them for larger ones.
