These are negative symptoms and are caused by antipsychotics. Look up information on KarXT.

Yes, but I had to put the time and effort in to fix my habits and learn the skills again. I sort of had some social skills and then they were gone.

Day treatment has helped me a lot. I think finding the right med also helped. I’m way better than I was ten years ago as far as being able to get out in the world.

What’s your age if you don’t mind me asking?

I’m 37. I got sick at 16 but didn’t get treatment and diagnoses till I was 21. It’s gotten a lot better over the years and I’m in a good position money wise these days. Idk I just wanted to say things have gotten a lot better. I give the most credit to meds and day treatment.

These symptoms persist when I am off antipsychotics for extended periods. Higher doses of APs can definitely make them worse.

That’s a long time to get treatment

I got dxd with drug induced psychosis when I was 17

Then lost all contact with services and ended up in hospital again when I was about 25 which was about 2/3 years after things started to fall apart

When I’m not taking antipsychotics, I take a shower almost every day and brush my teeth.
When I take them in intermediate doses, I’m screwed. I take a shower every 10 days and I don’t brush my teeth.
I suppose that every schizophrenic is different, so the response to antipsychotics is different too.

I shower at least once a day without issue. Therapy helped me build habits that let me cope with having negs.

Higher doses of antipsychotics can cause lack of motivation and so can being off meds

I’ve always thought that the meds were the sole cause of my lack of motivation but when I became psychotic years ago I ignored my hygiene for weeks

So it’s both, the higher dose meds and the illness itself

I think they can improve. I was diagnosed with SZA years ago and rarely showered. Then my diagnosis changed back to schizophrenia and I still rarely showered. Now I’m trying to shower at least a few times a week. My social skills still suck but I’m going to be seeing a therapist soon to work on them.
