Can anybody think of an alternative medical name to replace the term schizophrenia

They used to use the term “dementia precox”, like schizophrenia i guess there are many causes of dementia and many causes other than just getting old!

“A brain boo-boo”. Or “A mind pimple”.
I’m just being stupid.

It should be called Elyn Saks’ disease. It would be like Lou Gehrig’s disease.

Pans disease, of course.

HEy,

I’m in favour of keeping it schizophrenia.

I often use it and keep using it because I think it would cause less hassles.

I’m quite happy in saying I’m schizophrenic. Most people don’t know shite and being able to give them a different idea is a great thing…that’s how you win the war…not by changing it to some politically correct term to ease peoples feelings.

Seriously. I’m schizophrenic and splitting mind was just as good a descripition as most others.!

A friend in the struggle,.

Each group of doctors adapt a special term for the condition to supports their theoretical perspective about nature of condition, but it looks vaguely talisman to understandable by the person with the condition or even general readers

If you are without sz,and reached the age of youth, and then began to show the symptoms
of sz inside your psychological world “seeing imaginary people and hearing voices …etc”,
for there must be an identical term guide you to what you should follow it willingly without coercion

-When inner symptoms of sz appear,do not look for the person as any symptoms of disease, therefore do not have guessed go to doctor to take medication, you will reject
the idea of disease or going to doctor, and this has many risks on your life

The symptoms vary in form and content from the rest of symptoms of any known disease

The person does not have previous experience to make him know what will happen to him during the next 48 hours if he continues at his refusal to go to doctor

It is supposed that, the person must asks to go to doctor and straight the medical intervention measures willingly even with his knowledge that the symptoms that be felt inside himself is not a symptoms of frank disease

The person does not know that ,as soon as the emergence of the symptoms, could not eating, drink or going to work or practice the usual behavioral activities, and will lose the ability to relax ,sleep or focus attention toward things around him,

The attention degree has arises to highest level, begin manifestation of ferment, eruptions and disordered behavior, will lose huge amount of biological energy,

All of this will continue without an automatic stop,he had no knowledge that the disposal of intensity of symptoms occur via the medical intervention

In sum,the new name of sz must help the person without sz to know what will happen to him if sz symptoms hit him ,

phychotic works just fine

I’m learning to like “Integration Disorder”

do you not think Integration Disorder implies that we have difficulty integrating into society. That would hold a lot of stigma. Also, it could be perceived as being socially maladjusted.

We play that game here in Canada. First we had Indians, but that was stigmatizing. Then we had Aboriginals, but that was considered stigmatizing. We had settled on Natives, but some found that stigmatizing. We are in the middle of making the shift to calling them First Nations Member, but I am sure that will become stigmatizing, too.

I just call them Indians. I don’t have a problem with any of them, except the ones that act like idiots, and every group and skin colour can lay claim to a fair number of those.

I’ll stick with Sz as a label. No one will be fooled into thinking the disease is different by a name change.

I think educating about the illness is preferable to there being constant name changes to avoid the stigma. I’m with @anon82948922 and @rogueone on this.

Oddly enough, if you Google schizophrenia + symptoms you can find out what to expect from this illness. Which is somewhat amazing to those of us over 40. Still don’t think we need a name change. If you can’t operate Google, you have worse problems than an illness being misnamed.

@LoneSoldierRyan
Do you meant, psychotic understanding works for post content just fine ?

@pixel
All what you said is insignificant ,because you have not self experience with sz or have theoretical knowledgeable ,even if you acknowledge that you are schizophrenic patient
and take medication

If you know the sz or have actual self experience with it,show us what is it ,rather than to ask me to search google or else, but i know you have nothing to say except the false stories that you believe in

You appear your self to the readers as a knower of schizophrenia, while i see you as a socialist or healthy care worker have lack of knowledge about the real schizophrenia, and that is not enough to make you confront me in any thing related the schizophrenia

You can not answer about any simple question related the sz,you laugh at your self and the general readers, you act as a schizophrenic actor

There is no single correct information about the schizophrenia in all your posts,

Renaming disorders to change public beliefs and attitudes remains controversial. This study compared the potentially destigmatising effects of renaming schizophrenia with the effects of renaming bipolar disorder by comparing the label ‘schizophrenia’ to ‘integration disorder’, and ‘bipolar disorder’ to ‘manic depression’, in 1621 lay participants. ‘Bipolar disorder’ was associated with less fear and social distance than ‘manic depression’. ‘Integration disorder’ was associated with increased endorsement of a biopsychosocial cause and reduced attributions of dangerousness but also increased social distance, highlighting the complex effects renaming has on stigma.

Integration Disorder has an advantage over bipolar disorder and schizophrenia in that it’s difficult to nominalize people into a label. While you can call someone a schizophrenic or bipolar, I don’t think calling someone ‘integration’ or ‘ID’ would be stigmatically convenient.

doesn’t integration disorder suggest in a sense that wemight have difficulty integrating into society socially.

I’ve been living with it for 22 years d00d. I’m married. I have a kid who is now a teen and doing well. I’m self-employed. I am well-regarded in my community. What do you have to show for all of the blag you spout about living successfully with Sz? Please enlighten us. Enquiring minds want to know. (Well, not really.)

If the doctors think that the schizophrenia is a disease or illness or else,we do not mind because they have not direct perception experience and can not diagnosis the inner symptoms not diagnosis the cause nor prove any thing from their assumptions

BUT if a man with schizophrenia has talks about the schizophrenia as a disease,in reality he has not enough awareness to says facts about the schizophrenia, because the disease issue is just a delusional matter in his mind

There is no any type of disease symptoms running in the body of the schizophrenic
-That to say,all inner symptoms that be felt by the schizophrenic are not organic /bodily in nature, while the inner symptoms of sz is not a symptoms as you know the meaning of symptom in the common language

They are new type of existential phenomena, they are a features of higher entity /entities ,they are the things so-called hallucination phenomena

It is supposed that,if the schizophrenia has describes his inner symptoms,he must talks about features of the things so-called hallucination, they are the inner symptoms of sz nothing else

They are not a features of disease or illness or disorders or any think that you know
The doctors will fail to deal with the hallucination if they think that they are a symptoms of organic disease or mental illness, because they are a whole personal entities more developed than the human psyche

It is supposed that, the schizophrenic does not feels any symptoms of disease, instead he must feel a features of alive higher entities ,sees them, listen to their voices, has a bilateral discussion with them …etc all of that can not classified as a symptoms of disease or else

the person who is talks about the schizophrenia and have not any idea about the above facts,he talks about the sz outside the box !

Yes folks it’s time for " Who’s the real schizophrenic?" with your host Abat.
