Or would they not let me? I think at this point it’d be best if I join the military.
I had a dream about it last night that I was a marine

No, you wouldn’t get in as a schizophrenic.
Hey at least, I can say, I thought about it and I’m not afraid
As a schizophrenic, I was called for induction two times. I finally failed my physical, to everyone’s relief.

The stress that military personnel must endure during war time is very extreme, hence the reason why many end up in PTSD. It’s difficult enough for a neurotypical person to deal with that kind of stress, let alone someone with a serious MI.
Unfortunately no. However, there is a strange exception. If you are some sort of scholar who has a law degree, computer science degree, PhD in psychology, ect, you have a chance at working in their human resources or logistics. Keep in mind that they just don’t want you to see combat.
For example, a psychologist who has a mental illness who is recovered and on meds might be able to work in a VA. A computer wiz who has mental illness and is stable and medicated has a chance at working in logistics.
We will never be given assault rifles and combat boots and put in combat. We are already very mentally damaged and most not all but most of us would become symptomatic under the stress of combat.
This is what I have heard from word of mouth, I am not citing any publications.
Just imagine a “Beserker platoon” (sz troopers)
Congrats to you for showing interest. I heard a couple things as I wanted to myself for a while. That you couldnt, that you had to be off meds, and then someone said yes but I heard they would treat you very poorly when being tortured. So all for the best I guess. Things will work out, just takes time.
I want to be a Navy SEAL! Oh, I can’t? Oh well, I’m still brave for having wanted to.
In my country Norway, there were mandatory drafts for male in my generation, i was refused since. I had the sciz.
when i was 18 i nearly went into the royal marines…uk army .
but it meant going in as a private…not an officer. ( i did not have the required education )
the recruitment sergeant…did not advise it…as i have a ’ posh ’ english accent…therefore i would have got picked on. ( different classes don’t mix well !?! )
take care
Common sense and working on an army base tells me that the U.S. military would not accept someone with schizophrenia. Schizophrenia is a good way to get out of the military but not very good for getting in.
I took a sophomore course in Abnormal Psychology in 1968. The Ph. D. teaching it pointed out that many schizophrenics were career Army people, since Army is the same routine day in and day out and very few decisions have to be made. A lot of your dishwashers in the Army turned out to be schizophrenic, this guy taught.
