Can anyone point me to resources on how to build muscle and burn fat? I have been to the gym in the past but I went with no knowledge of how it all works. I was kinda doing these exercises with hopes that I would get big (using the stronglits 5x5 programme). But I think it’s not cutting for me and I want to do more excersises but I don’t know which! I want to build muscle throughout my whole body whilst doing cardio for burning my excess fat. But I don’t know what exercises to do, in what order, which body parts, how it all works in a nutshell. Can anyone help?
You might want to subscribe to a guy called coach Greg Doucette on YouTube. He has good info. As far as the particulars of a workout split I don’t know. I just work out intuitively and do calisthenics.
Don’t fall for the whole cutting bulking thing. It’s a myth. If there is a calorie surplus needed to gain muscle it’s very slight like 500 calories. So slight that you might not even notice a difference between days when you eat more or less. Don’t listen to those gym bros who tell you to stuff your face with fast food and then starve yourself for 3 months. Maintenance gaining is the way to do it.
Eat healthy, eat around 1g of protein per pound of body weight and lift heavy and hard. I’m no expert but should be aiming for say 8-10 reps on many exercises and going to failure. Even if youre just doing partial reps by the end, I’d say get all you can out of every exercise.
Also aim for atleast 20 minutes to an hour plus of cardio depending on what your goals are and how much fat you have to lose etc. but don’t skip cardio.
As for finding a good workout routine I’d say find someone on YouTube who you like the physique of. Do you want to be a body builder? To lift for strength? Do you want to be a CrossFit guy. Find someone who’s body you’d ideally want to look like and go to their website and see if they have a workout plan you can buy.
Also if your a beginner I wouldn’t worry too much about exercise plans etc. just get out there and do what gets you moving. You’ll make newbie gains almost no matter what you do as long as you go hard and eat a balanced diet with enough protein. Any basic plan you can stick to will probably be a good one. So If you find one you like and can stick to I’d say go for it.
Consistency is key tho. Better to find one you like and can stick to than one that’s “ideal” but you don’t like and won’t get up every day to do.
Another thing to remember is muscle growth is primarily from working out, fat loss is primarily from diet. Cardio helps yes, but ultimately say you ran an hour a day. Even if you burned 600 calories from that, you could undo it with 2 donuts… So… Diet is # 1 for weight loss, cardio is #2.
thanks for your input man. I think I’m just aiming to get a better physique and cut my belly/ neck fat. I found a programme that was actually mentioned to me by @dreamer54 a while back
True dude depending on what you mean by a better physique idk maybe be better for you to do more cardio based stuff if you want to lose weight. Like maybe a sport or something could be good like pick up soccer or basketball. If weight loss is your main goal I guess, but I’d say do whatever you find the most fun! You’ll naturally do more that way
Yeah for cardio I was gonna walk for 1 hour and a half a day everyday. For sport I was looking into jiu jitsu again but I’m also thinking of getting piercings on my face so mught nit be a good combo lol
Merry Christmas! No I’m saying you should just maintain your weight! Don’t cut and bulk. It’s unnecessary and harmful. Sorry not 500 more like 50 or 100 calories… Something so negligible that it shouldn’t even be considered a bulk. Recommending you eat at maintenance and just grow muscle by eating enough protein. 1 gram per kilo of body weight (sorry I think I said pounds before). So if you weigh 90 kilos then 90gs of protein would be sufficient
Some people can build heavy muscle mass with diet and exercise and no steroids. But they have a specific body type. So you may or may not be able to build large muscle mass in a healthy manner.
It’s best to focus on training and diet and strength by trying to compare to your own previous best rather than others’ best because everyone is different.
In other words, you’re only in competition with yourself.
Eat lean protein multiple times a day, eat fruits, veggies and whole grains. Eat less fat but do eat some healthy fat.
