Buying a christmas present for yourself

Well…I decided to buy something for myself and consider it to be a christmas present for myself.

It was a vinyl record of gabrielle(UK) because I really like her music.

Are you getting something or already bought something for yourself?

I recently decided to buy myself a new phone. I ordered the Xiaomi note 10 pro. I have the Xiaomi note 9 pro, but as I use it for everything, I’d feel safer knowing I had a backup phone in case anything happens to it.

The Xiaomi note 11 has been announced so the price of the note 10 has fallen.

You have a record player? I buy myself things constantly… I want a vinyl record but no record player… just like the thought of owning a record…

Yeah…I got one, but it’s not a high end player. I bought mine for about 170$ on sale, but i’m satisified with it. It has a good sound although it lacks some qualities like weight adjustment on the needle. But most of the records I have play without any problems.

If you are into music I recommend getting a vinyl player. The sound is better. The best way to describe it is that it sound is more real, like if you were listening to a band live it is much more what it would sound like than a mp3 file.

I went overboard. Bought too many gifts for myself.

You inspired me to treat myself. Sooo, a box of three, 1lb fruitcakes,.

That generally indicates that the MP3 was ripped at low quality. 256 kbps or higher sounds pretty good. 192 kbps MP4s using AAC also sound excellent, especially if you’ve got a high quality DAC in your audio chain:

I got cleaned out by 6 monthly car rego and a $180 speeding fine so It’s no xmas presents for me. Otherwise I’d buy some hobby paints for the miniatures as my new schedule is to do hobby stuff daily.

Woe is me but still looking forward to a quiet Xmas!

I keep buying Christmas presents for people. It seems that I can’t resist. I guess my theory is, if I buy enough, someone is bound to like something. lol.

Anyway, I am mixing in the occasional miniature for my self with my orders, so I am buying for myself as well.

I’m gonna write out my self christmas wish list here:

PS Vita (completely hackable now, softmod)
Nintendo 3DS XL (also hackable fairly easily, another softmod)
Takeout food budget (say $600)
Computer-connectable speedometer setup (probably a raspberry pi dealie, want to bike for maybe 90 mins a day, the speedometer will be programmed to beep when going under 10 kph)
Nintendo switch (because why not, hoping to get Super Mario Odyssey 2)
Fighting game arcade stick (6 arcade buttons plus joystick, maybe HORI)

I bought myself a few balls of yarn for a pair of socks I wanted to knit. I also bought Cyberpunk 2077 while it was fifty percent off. I kinda feel a little guilty for spending so much on stuff for myself when I could have bought a couple more decent gifts for my family.

I almost bought the Xiaomi Poco F3 5G on Black Friday from AliExpress. It has Snapdragon 870. It was 280$US. I decided to wait for next year as Mediatek will release a Dimensity 9000 chipset in Jan or Feb 2022 thats faster than the fastest Android Snapdragon 888+ and even a tiny bit faster than iPhone 13 Bionic A15.

The problem is 5G is nowhere…

I don’t really care about 5G, I am fine with 4G. My network company is a cheap one that didn’t even announce 5G yet, so won’t even have 5G even in 5yrs.

We have fantastic 5G coverage where I live, even in my mid-sized town. The throughput is astonishing. Faster than my home fibre.

I bought myself a nice banjo at the end of last July. She’s a beauty and I love her to death.

Otherwise I really don’t need anything atm.

Oh so you are clever and a comedian?

:joy:

I bought a banjo bridge mute some time ago and it really quiets it down but the bad part is that mistakes are more prominent. Oh well. I still love her.
