Brother got hospitalized

My 15 year old little brother. We’ve known he’s had issues for quite a while and he shows pretty much the same issues as me so I wouldn’t be surprised if he also has sza. Anyways he left my mom a suicide note and admitted to us he had planned to kill himself that night. He also said he had been struggling w addiction to alcohol, vaping and weed. We are all heartbroken and shocked. We had seen him sneak alcohol on occasion but figured it was just when friends were over and they were being typical teenagers we didn’t know he was drinking himself to sleep every night. And my parents had caught him vaping before but thought he stopped but really he just stopped doing it at home. None of us knew he had gotten into weed.

So now he’s doing inpatient. I am glad my parents are starting to take mental health seriously and are doing better with him than they did with me. My mom says they don’t want to make the same mistakes but feels horrible that she didn’t act sooner. I just hope he is having a good experience.

I’m sorry to hear about your brother @Anna. I had a similiar experience close to his age.

He will be fine as long as he is under psychiatric care, especially at his age.

Sorry your brother’s going through so much atm. Hope the treatment helps.

I’m sorry he’s going through all of this. It will help him to have you as a role model. I know my life changed a lot when I first talked to people in recovery. It gave me hope.

I’m sorry he’s having a hard time hopefully he gets better soon sending good vibes your way!

I’m really sorry about your brother. I hope he finds the help he needs in treatment and gets through this with ease.

At least he’s in the system now and you can give him the benefit of your experience.

Teen years are so hard. I hope the hospital is a good experience.

Here is an update. Brother is out of the hospital. He said he had a really good experience there and is glad to be on medication now and has not had any issues with it yet. He was kind of scared of the other kids there because a lot of them were from jail and had violent histories, and he said the school sucked so he was glad to be out, but from what he said the therapy and staff were great and that’s the most important part. We are glad to have him home and are making adjustments for his safety like locking up alcohol and taking away his debit card so he can’t buy stuff anymore. I feel greatly relieved that he is ok now.

I meant to post on this but I just kept drifting away due to a short psychotic episode but I’m here now.

I resonate with this @Anna as my first break was when I was just 16. I could recall hearing voices since I was a teenager, and I didn’t know why I was hearing them. I just tried to avoid my hallucinations as much as I can. But I couldn’t avoid them, which led me to continue harming myself and locking myself up etc.

Also substances can be really triggering his mental health- so it’s good that you are keeping his credit/debit card away. I’m really hoping for the best and glad to hear that he’s now doing much better
