Cognitive Training for Schizophrenia: Dr. Sophia Vinogradov

http://www.brainhq.com/indication/schizophrenia Has anyone tried this? I am considering getting a 1 month subscription.

I tried the flying bird ,brain speed one. It was far too quick for me and I did badly. It’s a shame only a few things are available for free.

I just got a 1 month subscription and did a daily work out on the website. I’ll keep you guys posted on any improvement.

I didn’t get a subscription but when I was trying it there were quite a few free games/exercises that I did and I can well believe that if I had the discipline to do them on a daily basis, they would improve my mind and functioning.

I just did another session. The games can get challenging fast. I got 2 stars of 5 for all the games I tried, except for 1 exercise I got a full 5 stars. It will be interesting to know as I improve if my cognition will as well.

I get the impression like a lot of these things they test how well you do under pressure, hence the speed element, rather than necessarily how good you actually are at something.

One interesting one was to accurately pick out spoken words from background noise … sort of like trying hone in on one conversation in a crowded room, the type of sensory task that is supposed to be difficult for us.

Another one had to do with short term visual memory. Your eyes had to be fast at seeing but the response time was not measured.

Which was that? I tried the ‘hear hear’ one which was trying to spot the noise you’d first heard but that wasn’t words. I did very badly at that.

I haven’t been on the site in a long time but it seemed like I had a large choice of games to choose from and use for free at that time. That may have changed.

I noticed my performance was especially good today since doing 2 twenty minute sessions yesterday. It could have just been one of my good days, but I navigated better on the road and had no anxiety, which is especially unusual for me while driving, and I don’t typically go to places I am not used to like I did today. Keep in mind my GPS device’s mount was broken so I had to hold it with one hand and drive with the other. Still, I felt in full control. I also took care of some business competently in person and on the phone. A woman even complimented me on my appearance, so I think I had a healthy demeanor to myself.

OK, I still see an improvement with my ability to drive and having less anxiety while doing it. Perhaps my anxiety while driving lately was sensory related, because some of the exercises work your visual perception and spatial reasoning. In other respects, after doing the exercises I feel more clarity and alert, a similar effect to drinking a cup of coffee.
