Continuing the discussion from Cognitive impairment:
This is really interesting (I’ve never used Lumosity - I didn’t know you could export screens like this - but perhaps this is just a simple screen capture).
I’ve not seen any research that suggests that Lumosity would be of any value specifically for people who have schizophrenia (unilke the other program recently mentioned from the UK that has some research behind it) …
But - I wonder if there is any value in people posting their scores here as a way to encourage each other to continue to make the effort at these types of programs.
There is a game in Lumosity that stretches some of the same memory faculties as the Peak module for schizophrenia. It’s called Memory Matrix, and although it’s nowhere near as challenging as the Peak module it should be a good introduction.
The Peak module is perceptually harder and stresses the memory of specific detail more and has a much higher difficulty ceiling, but both tackle the quality of instant memorisation and recall, and both do memory of position.
My problem with these kind of tests is I don’t do well in pressurised, time limited tests. It’s part of the non verbal learning disorder symptomatology. I am not a fast reacter/responder.

But that’s exactly the issue that the training is supposed to resolve. You shouldn’t avoid the app just because you won’t be good at it, that’s exactly an indication that you could benefit a lot from doing it.
To put it bluntly-what an effing load of crap. Tried again to do attention part and it went into perpetual loop mode again. Thought may be it’s a firefox thing so logged in again via IE. It hadn’t remembered I’d done the speed test already and took me back to square one! Can’t be arsed with going through the whole rigmarole again. It might be ok/good for those who can get it to run smoothly but it’s bleeding useless for me.
All it’s done is wound me up and made me stressed.
I been playing since High school, I often thought playing this game helped increasing chance of my problem…
Oddly, I have strong strength on memory section. It’s been decreasing though, may be I haven’t working out hard enough. Their algorithm for generating square box has been change though.
I was interested how other people are doing in this area well as I am.
To be honest I was horrible my self at high school. But I been playing this for not so often as I should. I recently started again, it’s been 3years for once a week or sometimes once a month. I been tightening the practice day to everyday now.
That’s interesting, your history suggests that most of the benefits of the brain training came over a 4-5 month period at the beginning, and gave a 25% to 100% increase in score, and the benefits were lasting. And you weren’t necessarily that consistent in playing.
Well, I haven’t really doing as consistently as I should. But it seems it is helping. I am thinking to start jogging (physical) and also do mental work out everyday.
My weakest area is problem solving which is mathematics. (Sorry John Nash, disgrace to your game theory.)
I found that doing abacus calculation as image in your head really improve 3digit addition or subtraction in the head. Before, I could not do this. I know some friend who goes up to 7-8 digits sums in their head. Truly amazing.
I didn’t used to, either. 20 years on I’m doing much better. I’m a big fan of Lumosity. I prepaid the 2 yr package. Considering re-upping to lifetime next time. I find this service valuable. Don’t really have any interest in sharing my scores – I compete against myself.
Anything that exercises the ‘little grey cells’ is a good investment.
