Bought some eggs

So I’ve been living off tinned food recently, which has been a step up from eating out in terms of looking after myself, if not quality and taste. However, a couple of days ago, I bought some eggs, so can actually try cooking with a pan. I have some oil already. There is nothing really superior about doing this, except budgeting and discipline. So far I haven’t managed to bring myself to actually cook the eggs. I’m going to try today. Thank you.

Fried eggs are probably the easiest but my favorite is scrambled. However when I was on my own I used a method my Mom’s boyfriend at the time taught me by cooking it in a plastic bowl in the microwave using cooking oil to keep it from sticking. I cooked scrambled eggs growing up in a pan and it’s takes a few minutes to do depending on how high you turn up the heat. The main thing is to cook the entire yoke without burning it. Of course with fried eggs all you have to do is cook it like a pancake. I never did it but it looks easier.

I might try the microwave method, I hadn’t thought of that, certainly I prefer microwaving to hob cooking at the moment.

Remember to scramble the egg before you cook it if you want it scrambled. If you want to “fry” it don’t do anything to it. Cooking times vary.

I make mine over easy for some egg sandwhiches. I find having a lid helps with the egg yolk not busting since the steam cooks the top a little. Though i think im more after the buttery toast than the egg.

Oh and lots of pepper.

Strangely i havent cooked much lately outside of frozen stuff.

Good luck with your cooking

Just tried the microwave approach to scrambled eggs, they turned out a treat, thanks guys

I love eggs and they are cheap. On olanazapine I was eating 8 fried eggs at once everyday. Now I have reduced to 6, I am on Latuda. My cholesterol and blood pressure went up though, I am on cholesterol plus hypertension meds and I am only 29 y.o.
Don’t overeat eggs, its not healthy.

Everything in moderation. Eggs are a good source of protein.

I eat alot of eggs. Cheap and good. Egg salad sandwiches are my favorite.

If you can… and are trying to be healthy try cooking with butter instead of oil to get healthy fats.

I use Becel vegetable non-hydrogenated butter.
Its the healthiest butter.

I think cooking with olive oil is healthier than butter. I’m pretty sure extra-virgin olive oil has more healthier fats then butter.

You can’t heat olive oil to high temperatures, it will burn and become more unhealthy.
Also it changes the flavour of food because its bitter. I found Becel vegetable non-hydrogenated butter to be the best. Olive oil is the best for salads.

There is a ton of things that you can cook using olive oil. I would think butter would burn before olive oil would. I’ve been using olive oil to cook for years, for a variety of things and have not noticed any kind of different or bad taste or bitterness in any of the food I’ve cooked.

You can cook with it but its not recommended at high temperatures. Olive oil, with its relatively low smoke point of 325 to 375°F (165 to 190°C)

It’s OK. I usually use it when I cook something on the stove.

Yea because if you fry with it at high temperatures it will make smoke, my mother tried it.
We also cook rice, pasta, vegetables, haricot beans etc in olive oil, it tastes good and healthy.

My mother tried it in a deep frying machine and it made smoke.

Yes----at really high temperature. Or because you let it sit on in the pan on the burner too long without putting your food in. If you are cooking eggs or a vegetable dish or browning meat etc. and the recipe calls for oil, you just put a teaspoon in and let it heat up. It takes about 2 minutes to get to a temperature where the food is ready to go in the pan. Yes, it will smoke if you let it sit too long by itself.

Seriously, I’ve been cooking for years and I’ve tried dozens and dozens of recipes that call for olive oil and it is perfectly fine and lots of recipes specifically call for olive oil.

Deep frying temperature is 325-400F, I read that olive oil smoke at 325-375F. We tried it in a deep frying machine and it smoked.
