Before cell phones

Seeing Zoe’s cell phone thread just reminds me of how convenient cell phones are. Even a necessity? This hasn’t happen to me awhile but it just shows that cell phones aren’t just some luxury but much needed.

About 35 years ago I was going somewhere at night on the freeway and my car broke down, I forget what was wrong with it but it stopped running. I was many miles from my home and this was before cell phones. There was little traffic. It was late at night and I needed to call a tow truck. Well, I had no choice, I had to walk to the nearest pay phone so I started walking down the shoulder of the freeway until I got to a main road where I knew I would have the best chance of finding a pay phone.

I ended up walking like three miles to the phone and called a tow truck and walked three miles back. It was miserable. And then I waited a half an hour by my car for the tow truck. When my car needed a jump about a month ago I could track the tow trucks location on my cell phone as he made his way to me. But back in 1990 when my car broke down I was just sh*t out of luck and had to do things the hard way.

So depending on cell phones may suck but for women I think if you lived before the days of cell phones you would appreciate them now . And men. Walking six miles down a freeway at night is no fun.

Smart phones are a blessing and a curse. I love being able to Google whatever I want every day and follow people on social media and subscribe to YouTube channels but I hate getting unwanted texts and calls.
