Bad News for the Highly Intelligent

Mentally it’s more things like anxiety, bipolar and depression than schizophrenia.

I think the math is that intelligent people are labeled with intelligence not that they have or have not mental illness like I could attach the word God to anyting and it become religious

i think it depends if you have balance in life. what you work at and what you develop has to be in balance. like physical and mental balance and also emotional balance.

Kinda makes sense, when you’re intelligent you tend to learn about and analyze the world around you. And most the world is a shithole which can make you feel anxious and depressed. Same thing with all the crap you deal with in your personal and/or professional life. Dumb people tend not worry about such things because they are unaware of them, as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss.

I could have gotten into Mensa in college. Then I just had anxiety. Even about 9 years ago, I had only lost 6 IQ points after 22 years of schizophrenia, when I took a test to see if I could get into Mensa.

Intelligence is probably more likely to cause depression if you think about existence and world problems a lot.

No wonder I’m such a wreck.

My schizophrenia may have been my reaction to the negative things in the world that had infested my brain, my brain then expanded and became hyper aware causing fight or flight, etc, so maybe the illness is just too much information, the mind is too open (maybe) and now my med has helped compartmentalise things so now their is more order for me than chaos.

Lol! Awww. :hugs:

I think I’m the dumb one because I’m nearly always in a good mood. Either that or my antidepressant is working well.

Lol i feel like thats common knowledge kinda. I forget who it was plato socrates or aristotle but ive heard tons of quotes about intelligent people having a mad streak in them. Even the old idea about the mad scientist or crazy old einstein coming up with ingenious ideas. Autistic people for example are known to have average to high iq’s. I feel like people with schizophrenia are good at approximating or intuiting things.

The idea of the intelligent but instable person is as old as the sun haha in the 4 temperaments theory of personality where there are people with either air, water, fire, or earth personality types, those of the earth temperment are often intelligent but prone to mental illness. Anxieties, depression, visions etc.

Big difference between the two.
