Back to trying how to outsmart the heat/humidity of Kansas

The A/C my landlord gave me is more or less ineffective. The thing is portable and it’s not a good seal at all having it in the window.

So I’m trying to run a dehumidifier which raises temperature. Over time though, as my apartment is about as well sealed as I can imagine it being, I’m hoping I can get my humidity hovering between 44 and 50% without the dehumidifier pumping out heat at all times.

If it does stagnate and there isn’t much too much bleed from the other apartments then I might be able to maintain low humidity which is totally preferable, high heat accounted for.

I’m tired of the somewhat asphyxiating feel and getting sweaty by doing nothing but vacuuming for five minutes. Got my fingers crossed on it. Tried this last year, but the apartment upstairs was full of holes.

My main theory as to why the unit has stagnated at 55% while it got their from 79% within a half hour is that there is a lot of latent moisture in fabrics and things of that nature that are slowly being released into the humidified air.

It was my theory with heating and cooling. Don’t heat the air. Heat the walls and the air will take care of itself. Don’t cool the air. Cool the walls and the air will take care of itself.

Energy conservation has more to do with controlling environmental factors than just having new lower power tech.

Got my fingers crossed. Will keep you all updated.

hi Azley, I’m certainly glad you have a plan. My daughter doesn’t have ac so she came over here one afternoon because it was just so hot in her upstairs apartment. Poor girl is just 2 months pregnant and was absolutely miserable with the heat and the nausea so I amped up the ac and sprayed her with diluted rubbing alcohol. She got so cool she asked for her blankie, lol. I think she needed a little mama love too. Stay cool, and nice to meet you.

Man I used to dig ditches for fiberoptic cable. sun is cruel in florida. anyways, ever since I had to stay in the heat for so long when I used to dig ditches I am kind of in love with air conditioning and cold drinks.

Ah good job and thanks!

@jukebox couldn’t imagine doing that kind of work. I get woozy in the sun after 20 minutes if I’m working.

The dehumidifier worked wonders by the way. It’s still 85 in my apt… but the air feels cool…

The thing is gettign the air down to 45% and then shuts off and clicks back on about half a minute later when it detects the humidity is still around 50% in the whole apartment.\

That said I’ve poured 5 to 7 gallons of water down the drain emptying the things tank. There is moisture in just about everything so that might continue for a while.
